Tongue. Grew up on a dairy farm so we made full use of most of the parts of the animals. I know my revulsion to tongue was mostly psychological, but could never get past the "I'm tasting something that use to be used to taste" I LOVE tongue and used to eat it all the time. A hot tongue sandwich on rye with yellow mustard at a Jewish deli after a night of partying...heaven! With a cherry coke.

My mom used to make chili out of leftover spaghetti sauce. No one wants mushrooms in their chili!!!!
Mostly, she was a good cook, but that one.... <<shudder>>

I asked Thing 1 the other day if we should have thanksgiving at our house or my mom's. She said if we went to my mom's, I better cook the food and take it over there. So I guess it will be at our house.

I know my revulsion to tongue was mostly psychological, but could never get past the "I'm tasting something that use to be used to taste" I thought cows bred for milk weren't good for eating and cows raised for eating weren't good for milk. Half of the offspring of those cows were of the male variety so not much good for milking Those were then butchered once they matured. After a cow became less productive, they also would be butchered but most of the meat was made into hamburger rather than roasts and steaks. Weltz: If I closed my eyes and didn't know it was tongue, the tongue meat tasted good....... but if I knew it was tongue, my mind would protest. lol

There is nothing short of physical torture that would make me eat that. I have family members who love it. a buddy gave me a thin slice to try (as an adult). it was so gross I spit it out and then licked the cubicle fabric to get it off my tongue. then moved cubes.... I laughed so hard, my eyeballs hurt. Thanks...I needed that after two days of hurricane prep. My parents were both really good cooks. About the only thing I hated was liver. No way, no preparation known to man makes this palatable. No condiment fixes it. No amount of nose-pinching or fantasizing helps, either.

I actually threw up once when it was being cooked in school cafeteria and our room was not to far away. Teacher didn't believe me when I said I felt sick so I threw up at my desk. Was in 3rd grade at time. She believed me after that.

I don't do mayo. Ever. Actually, I'm not a fan of most condiments. I save my calories for dessert. ;-). So, anything with a condiment is a no-go.
I also don't eat organ meat. Or cute animals like lamb or rabbits. Or raw shellfish.
Otherwise, I'm a fairly adventurous eater.

I like most condiments but I can't stand ketchup. It's only use is to make c0cktail sauce. Then it is just to cut the horseradish.

I don't remember it at all but my mom said there was a time we were in Kansas visiting my grandparents and grandma served creamed beef. She said the look on my face was priceless.

I've never been a big sandwich fan. I love an occasional PB&J or Fluffernutter, but IF I do have a ham and cheese sandwich it is dry.

Burgie Bundles Mom would encase some stuffing between two hamburger patties and then smother the whole mess with golden mushroom soup.

I know someone who HATES creamed chipped beef. His late GF was "all that" one time with me. I told her he loves the stuff. Even if he said he hates it, it means he LOVES it. She'd make double batches. She'd go take a shower and the whole works would go to the trash. When asked where it went, Dipshit would say I ate the whole thing. Rinse dishes and repeat. We used to have this when I was growing up as gravy on toast.

headcheese is made from the brains of cattle or hogs..... No, it's made with flesh from the head, but never the brain. Head cheese or brawn is a cold cut that originated in Europe. A version pickled with vinegar is known as souse. Head cheese is not a dairy cheese, but a terrine or meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig, or less commonly a sheep or cow, and often set in aspic. The parts of the head used vary, but the brain, eyes, and ears are usually removed. The tongue, and sometimes the feet and heart, may be included. It can also be made from quality trimmings from pork and veal, adding gelatin to the stock as a binder. -wiki When I was a kid my grandfather would go to the country sometimes and slaughter a hog on one of the family farms. I always knew when he'd brought one home as soon as I walked in their house. I could smell it. If I missed that clue, there was nothing like walking into the kitchen and seeing a hog's head in a bucket. Anyway, my grandmother made souse sometimes. She used the snout. I ate souse until I learned how it was made. I learned because if I was around, I was the lucky person that got to sit and turn the grinder. That's when "meats" made of different stuff ground and smashed together lost their appeal for me.

Swamp, salmon patties do not go with Mac and cheese. Almost everybody I know cooks them along with rice and biscuits. Not my favorite meal, but I'll eat it. My grandfather use to eat brains and eggs. Cow brains scrambled in eggs. I never tasted it. EWWWWW!

I know my revulsion to tongue was mostly psychological, but could never get past the "I'm tasting something that use to be used to taste" IP-a number of years back, I attended a 4th of July party in rural TN. The party was at a friend's home where he and his wife kept and raised about a dozen cows as did many of their local friends. Two women were talking and I overhesrd one tell the other, "We slaughtered a young bull several weeks ago as we don't need two bulls. We had his liver for dinner the other night and he was delicious."
