Any personal reviews on them? We are thinking of getting one for YDS who will be driving in the frozen New England frontiers on a regular basis and on I95/I93/I89 in northern New England on a regular basis year-round in sunshine and in blizzards. Everything I'm reading online sounds good. Was just looking for anyone with personal experience with one. TIA!!

Well it's essentially a raised impreza, so yes, good.

When we were looking for a car for our son to drive, the Crosstrek was one of my top choices. I even thought they looked fun - the bright orange and hyper blue ones just really appealed to me. But then when we drove it, I wasn't impressed (pun intended.) I drove it right before driving the Forester, which was almost the same price and thought the Forester was just a lot more car for the money. Forester was roomier, better lines of sight, more cargo capacity, and overall fit and finish were just much, much better. The Forester was just nicely done and the Crosstrek seemed a little ticky tacky in comparison - more squeaks, less smooth drive, cheaper interior materials. Made me very sad since I think the Crosstrek looked much more fun than the Forester.
Consumer Reports recommends that if you're looking at Imprezas (and the Crosstrek is just a raised Impreza with some slightly different trim), their pick is the Impreza Sport Wagon. Didn't look as cool as the Crosstrek, but drove much better and is slightly less expensive.

I drove the Crosstrek, the Forester and the Outback wagon in the same morning. I'd driven the Outback a few other times as well.
The rides were very different between the three. The Crosstrek drives like any other smaller car, i.e. Corolla, Civic, Impreza.
The Forester was a bit better, very big inside. The Outback had by far the best ride and the best suspension and solid feel on the road.
I've been driving the Outback for 2 years and am very happy with it.

DH has a crosstrek and I have a forester.
I love my car, but DH likes the smaller crosstrek - he doesn't like SUV's, even moderately sized ones like mine. I love all the windows the forester has, and how it sits a little higher than a standard car - I feel like I get a good 360 degree view.
Love the all wheel drive. We live in the South so snow isn't an issue that often, but they do better than standard cars during heavy rains, too.
Ours came with heated seats and the bad weather upgrades (heavy duty floor mats and truck liners) which are awesome, too, when you haul around a lot of gardening supplies.
