Excerpted from Gestapo America: FBI Director James Comey got Hillary off the hook but wants to put you on it. He is pushing hard for warrantless access to all of your Internet activity.
Comey, who would have fit in perfectly with Hitler’s Gestapo, tells Congress that the United States is not safe unless the FBI knows when every American goes online, to whom they are sending emails and from whom they are receiving emails, and knows every website visited by every American.
In other words, Comey wants to render null and void the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution and completely destroy your privacy rights.
...
Comey wants the unconstitutional power to demand from the providers of telephone and Internet services all records and information about you. These demands are not to be subject to oversight by courts, and the communication companies that serve you are prohibited from telling you that all of your information has been given to the FBI.
US Senators rushed to stick their swords into the Fourth Amendment. John Cornyn slapped an FBI-written amendment on the Electronic Communications Privacy Act Amendments Act of 2015. This caused the American Civil Liberties Union and Amnesty International to withdraw their support for the act, which caused the act to be withdrawn.
Senator John McCain rushed to the aid of the FBI. This Constitution-hating senator proposed an amendment to a criminal justice appropriations bill that would use a provision in the unconstitutional PATRIOT Act to grant the unlimited unaccountable power to the FBI to totally destroy your privacy.
McCain’s amendment failed, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R,KY) changed his vote so that he could negate the Senate’s vote with a vote to reconsider. Read more about the US narrowly dodging a bullet: bordc.org/news/senate-rejects-amendment-expanding-fbi-surveillance-powers-by-narrow-margin/The bullet will surely be fired again, and soon. To be fatalistically honest, there's not a thing anyone reading this can do to stop this transformation from taking place, but at least be aware. Bear in mind that this is what the future holds for you and for enemies of the status quo.

Well, if I'm not doing anything wrong, what do I have to fear? They should be able to search through my stuff.
One of the original arguments in favor of the (un)Patriot Act during the Bush Admin. Now it seems it is, sadly, becoming status quo. 1984 was in many was a prescient book. Since we are at 1984 does that mean "The Minority Report" is next and we will have "precrime"?

The problem is that it's not our wrongdoing we have to worry about.
Surveillance of this type is a goldmine for blackmailers, which is one of Mr. Roberts' grievances with it. If a politician isn't spotless, imagine the damage you could do with access to their browsing history, their e-mail, all of the data sent to and from their personal devices, ...
Uppity senator opposing expansion of the Patriot Act? Send him a little reminder that his marriage might not survive his dissent.
Democrat opposing gun control legislation? Maybe a front page story about his role in getting a beloved police chief fired will change his tune.
The FBI--or anybody who has access to the data--can easily destroy lives with it. That affords them an incredible, grossly unconstitutional, degree of power. It's "1984" come to life, as you say, Demin. The clock is ticking.

If you want private, buy a little diary with a lock and hide it under your mattress.

That all that information floating around in the ether wouldn't be accessed? Seriously? But everything? Browsing habits? E-mail? Data coming in and out? I've always entertained the possibility that an enterprising hacker might stumble onto some of my private correspondence by luck, or an ISP might get careless and accidentally leak my browsing history, but until recently I've never been cynical enough to believe that this kind of info could be requisitioned without any judicial oversight whatsoever.

Everything. From where you go, to what you buy, to your political stances, to everything you say, to all your photos. I never expected privacy on the web, and if you ever did, you're naive. I have some genuine Saskatchewan sealskin for sale. Interested?

That's like saying, in response to a warning of an inevitable tornado about to hit, "I guess since there's nothing we can do about it, we should all head out and get drunk on the patio." No.You can put yourself in a sober and watchful state of mind, take stock of every possible way you can isolate yourself from the effects of the storm, and warn others to take similar measures to protect themselves before it's too late.

If you want private, buy a little diary with a lock and hide it under your mattress. But, if he's still living at home, Mom will find it and read it. We mothers are like that.

Same here, well except the hiding in cellar. No cellars on the coast. But if they want me heaven help them . Does that mean free health care, meals and all the other perks while being incarcerated. I can live out my old age without worrying about my money running out. Always look on the bright side.

Heck, go live in a hut in Montana woods but watch the smoke signals

Your guys' concern over this is overwhelming. On a personal level, I am not at all concerned. If I was, I wouldn't be on the Internet. Given that I have made that choice, I am mostly of the opinion that I will never be a big enough fish for anyone to worry about. But on a larger scale, I am not concerned about this for the same reasons I am not concerned about crime, or terrorism, or natural disaster, or eating foods past the expiration date, or any number of other things. The moment I begin to let any type of fear have any control over any part of my life or my actions, I've already lost. Why bother continuing to live if you are only going to concede the game?

What I fail to understand is why you and some others here automatically equate concern with concession. I'm not suggesting you down a bottle of pills, I'm suggesting you steel yourself for the coming police state, including keeping track of major milestones such as the legislation presented in the OP. If the invasion of your privacy doesn't bother you, nor the possible exploitation of others' private data, I can't force you to take these threats seriously. But if you do consider these to be real and significant threats, "What, me worry?" isn't a wise attitude to adopt.

As long as they let us do what we want when it doesn't affect others... I don't care if they do record it, or read it, or spy on it.
That goes for my internet presence as well. I have the personal slogan of "I keep no secrets" for a reason. Secrets lead to lying. Lying leads to mistrust. Mistrust leads to suspicion. Suspicion leads to acting against what is suspected. Acting against what is suspected leads to retaliation. Retaliation leads to Armageddon.
So... secrets lead (eventually) to the destruction of everything. Is that what people want? Complete and utter annihilation?

You'd have to be a fool to think otherwise. It's the price you pay for this Brave New World and its technology. You sign on, you give up your privacy.
