3 suicide bombers attacked Brussels this morning, 2 at the airport and one in the subway. All of the gods, the entire cosmos, Karma, and any other higher power, please help us. We are our own worst enemies, at times.

You let uncivilized people into civilized countries and what do you expect? You invite trouble in? It comes in.

May I add the fact that these attackers were Muslim? Probably, but not a known fact at this early stage.

I heard a report that someone associated with Isis claimed responsibility but wasn't confirmed.

that airport....it's not all that big, lots of gates but there's really only one big salon before and one after security. all those people packed in to those spaces. don't want to imagine the chaos. I saw the pictures.

Unfortunately too many otherwise reasonable people don't realize that this response - kill all the Muslims - is exactly what the radical Islamists want and is playing right into their hands. One of the strategies of the radicalized Muslims is to create dissent and fear of Muslims by nonMuslims, hoping to create discrimination and ostracism. Once the nonradicalized Muslims are ostracized and discriminated against, the idea is that they will then turn into radicalized Muslims.
If you're angry with the radicalized Muslims, the very best way you can fight back is by refusing to give in to blind hate. Use your judgment and direct that anger only at the violent, radical people, not an entire religion. The vast majority of Muslims don't agree with, want or in any way support the violence; don't turn them into enemies by treating them the same way you would the criminal radicals.

In the same way that the Westboro Baptist Church and their ilk do not represent Christianity, ISIS and other terrorists do not represent Islam.
I have no doubt Allah is weeping for the innocent victims of the hate mongers who are calling out his name in blasphemy.

and strength to those in Brussels. To the bombers, I hope you are not too surprised by the lack of kudos in the afterlife.

Prayers for those killed, the injured, & their families.
And, I agree with Opti. How would you like to have to stand before God & explain why you just killed a bunch of innocent people?

Nope. I was expecting the old "religion of peace" diatribe Obama likes to recite.

My college suite mate was from Dearborn. Her father owned a restaurant there. I've always wondered if she became a nut job or produced any?

I have a good friend who lives in Istanbul and the bombings there earlier this week were not far from the street where our hotel was so we hung out in the area, ate dinner and shopped when we visited her. The previous attacks in Ankara are where a good portion of her family lives - but they're all ok. This was the last time I talked to her. That was just a little too close to home for me.
She's not been online since they happened, and while I know that that area is no where near her home or dental office, but it has to be very unsettling for her.

If I hadn't gotten my new job, my next assignment at my old company would have been a NATO contractor who would travel often to Brussels. This morning almost the first thing I heard about the attack was the today show talking to a US NATO contractor that was at the airport there and about to fly home when the bombs went off.

I can't even bring myself to look at the news or FB today. My brain just cannot register it. I don't want to become numb to the reality, but it is overwhelming.
There is so much I cannot control. So today, I will focus on what I CAN control. I am purposing to be extra kind to those around me today. Be patient when driving. Open doors for others. Say kind things. I passed on a pair of boots for free to someone else that could wear them.
It's not much, but maybe it will help someone.

I'm guessing the resterurant owner is Muslim. Therefore he and his children either are terrorists or must support terrorists.
Aren't stereotypes lovely?
