I have accepted an invitation to an Oscar party with a great group of friends. I'm looking forward to it, made my appetizer contribution (can't have a party without food) and now I'm having a real problem. There will be a ballot we need to fill out where we forecast the winners. And I gave seen exactly one (1) movie this year. And ithat one is not even nominated.
So someone please provide me with some prediction so I won't look like a complete dolt! I was going to at least look these movies/actors/etc. up but I ran out of time...

Well, one would assume they've been narrowed down to the point where 'its all good'... and hopefully not totally predictable.
But this could be fun! Lets make predictions and see who is close. Mine:
Best Picture: The Revenant Actor Leading: Leonardo for The Revenant Actress Leading: Brie Larson for Room Actor Supporting: Tom Hardy or Christian Bale... Actress Supporting: I only saw Hateful Eight? ... I'm guessing, cold, Alicia Vikander Animated: ? Cinematography... so hard. Mad Max. Or Hateful Eight. Or Revenant. I'm going with Mad Max Costumes: Mad Max Directing: The Room Documentary: Cartel Land Documentary Short: ? Film Editing: Star Wars Foreign Language: ? Makeup... ? Music: Bridge of Spies or Star Wars Music: Writings On the Wall I don't know anything about the rest... Actually I don't know anything about anything, but I do like movies

I googled Oscar predictions and it appears the Reveant has good odds of taking best picture, best director and best actor (DiCaprio).
I haven't seen any of them, all the movies I watch come from the library.

Umm, don't you have a week to guess?
They're not till next Sunday.
You can see a couple movies a day until then and make it a personally informed guess. :-)

It's multiple choice. Just pick one. Unless big bucks are involved I would just throw a dart at each category just for fun. Bet you get as many right as people who saw the movies

I do know that all of the nominees are white, so that narrows your choices significantly.

I followed most of your recommendations and had a great time handing that in. So really thank you for your help... Second party (never do anything by halves right) will be even more fun since some of my friends who moved to be closer to the grandkids in the last year, mailed their ballots in. But they will come for the actual awards show. It may not be Hollywood, it may not be glamourous, but it will be fun

I'm totally not a huge movie fan, but I intend to see "Spotlight" and soon. I remember when the story was unfolding in real time, right in my backyard. There's been some coverage of the Oscars leadup, and I've been link jumping this morning. This was an interesting read, thought some of y'all might be interested as well. How "Spotlight" is a master class in the art of visual nuance
