"No school or work tomorrow!!!" When I was in high school, that meant riding the toboggan down the hills at the high school I attended. Either way, I was at the high school.

Weather maps make it looks like you are about to get sandwiched by storms.

If it makes you feel any better we had bad weather down here this weekend, too. Normally I get to post about how it's still nice here while somewhere else has a blizzard, but this weekend just sucked. I was part of a big regatta we were hosting and on Saturday while we were sailing it rained on us the entire day, the wind built to nearly unsailable conditions and it got continually colder to boot. By the end of the day, it was miserable even to the people who came down from Canada to sail - 50 degrees, almost 30 kts of wind and driving rain as we sailed the last few races and then back to the club. Yesterday, it was cold and blowing so hard all day that I had trouble even standing upright in the unprotected areas. Sailing was canceled. I stayed to help the guests hoist their boats out of the water to pack on the trailers; normally if it's not windy you can hoist out a boat with only one or two people helping, but the wind was so strong yesterday that we had 8 or more people on the hoist and were still struggling. I wore half the tread off my sneakers because I'd try to plant my feet on the cement to get traction and the wind/hoist would literally push me skidding across the cement. Not fun.
Hope your blizzard doesn't much snow and your area recovers quickly.

Mother Nature can seriously blow me. Hard. On the upside, there will be 4" max so not as bad as it could be. And I have clean clothes and plenty of food this time!

We never had the generous benefit of grandparents to watch our kids when school was cancelled...or any other time. My kids got cheated.

I honestly don't know how a working couple with kids does it without help from grandparents. I guess we would figure something out, but but I have much respect for those that do it.

You also may have stopped at 1 or 2 kids.

My guest room is available on a first come, first served basis. 76 degrees at kickoff yesterday, and predicted to be even nicer today and matching yesterday after that until Friday.
I WANT THE RAIN BACK, we are still in a drought here!

X and I have help, but usually one of us bites the bullet and stays home. Some people have "per diem" sitters for these types of occasions. If I had one, I guess I'd be keeping a pretty good eye on the weather everyday and would probably check in with my pinch hitter sitter the night before to see if they might be available in case there is a school closing.

Which is a lot of planning, effort, and expense -- IF that arrangement is even an option -- and exactly why grandparents who are ready, willing, and able to do watch grandkids regularly and/or at a moment's notice are such a gift. I became a SAHM when I'd exhausted my vacation time to stay home for snow days and ear infections. I'll be honest -- I naively and selfishly counted on the grandparents in my child care plan just as my sister had. Who knew that 3 out of the 4 would be gone -- at relatively young ages -- by the time I had kids? I didn't have a Plan B (although my home day care provider generously kept ODS for a couple of days when YDS was born). I sincerely hope to be ready, willing, and able to pinch hit for my grandkids in 15-20 years.

I take mine to the YMCA. It doesn't open until 7am, but free childcare for members on no school/snow days. They're awesome too. They wear them kids out!

The must be a giant pile of forgotten snow shovels in some forgotten corner of the world. It's milk and bread here. A weather forecast of flurries will instantly fill the grocery store parking lot and empty the bread shelves and dairy cooler. Last time it snowed, the only thing left in the bread isle was a single loaf, busted open and slices strewn about like a struggle had occurred there only moments earlier.
