We live in the part of California where New Years is known for three things: (1) idiot drivers, usually drunk + uninsured; (b) really thick winter fog; and (3) large numbers of stupid people shooting weapons into the air between 11pm and 1am on New Years Eve, blissfully ignorant of the fact that bullets that go UP.... eventually come DOWN. So, every year "we" stay safely tucked into our home, away from drunk drivers, fog, and (hopefully) falling bullets. We've actually spent midnight under the dining room table ... that was the year our across-the-street neighbor got a bullet stuck in the roof of his car. This year, "we" = me and the kitties.

People are amazing aren't they... We will stay home and watch Red Wing hockey and then the ball drop. I too am afraid of drunks on the road.

We stay in our small neighborhood and share the evening with a few other families and alternate each year who hosts the gathering. Everyone brings an appetizer and some drinks for adults and kids so it is layed back and fun.

There's a reason why bartenders call NYE amateur night (along with St. Patrick's Day, July 4, and Hallowe'en)!
I couldn't be dragged out by 10 strong men and a horse.

We will be staying home as usual! Neither of us wants to share the road with the drunks! And don't forget, I'm down here where it is legal to carry long guns in the pickup back window!
Our neighbor across the road has a bonfire & fireworks on NYE! That is as much fun as anything else. If we feel like drinking, we can without any worries!
And just so ya know, I have a carry permit & wouldn't hesitate to use it if I felt threatened! Long gun or pistol!

We'll do what we always do. On the 30th, we'll drive out to the coast, rent a cabin in a remote area and stay there until Jan 2. It's our annual "get away from the Christmas hassle and celebrate our anniversary on Jan 1" celebration.

We will stay home and have a nice quiet evening. If we go all out on our celebration we might make some dip. We still have some crackers floating around so this might be a make some dip year. We're lucky if we are still awake at midnight.

We will stay home and enjoy homemade appetizers and a few drinks. Ahh...nothing like avoiding the crowds and crazy drivers. We have went out several times this past month to celebrate birthdays, etc. so it will be nice to relax at home for a change.

8-)We won a $50 gift certificate to a restaurant. So we thought we would go to dinner on nye and possibly go to a bar after to watch our favorite band. Yes we are amateurs.

We haven't decided yet. We'll either stay home where I'll do my best to stay awake until midnight (most likely failing) and my night owl boys will stay up most of the night or we'll walk down to a friend's house where they're having a small party.

My guy celebrates while I watch. His mother got him started and he gets carried away. New Years is seafood feast. Last night he came home with 8lbs of prawns and two boxes of squid and some oil I think, he called from the store and asked if we had oil. He will deep fry half the evening and on New Year's day if he didn't run out of raw seafood. He likes to also have lobster, crab and smoked salmon on New Year's and watch football. He always starts early and eats for several days after.
His mom and step dad didn't drink but his mom refused to cook on new year's day. She deep fried prawns the night before then put them out cold with snacks and watched parade and football all day. We would go visit them and he would eat prawns all day so started bringing 4lb boxes with him. We fished so he would smoke some salmon and cook up the summer's catch until it was totally out of control. I got some halibut and tuna left from this summer I should cook some of that.

In the past we have either gone to a house party or the bars, depending upon what is going on. This year (since we are going to be in the middle of a major snowstorm) I will more than likely be sitting home alone while DH is out plowing

Home with DH sitting watching an old movie, or maybe Lord of the Rings, and then watching the ball drop at midnight to breathless commentary. Also popcorn will be had for all hands, as well as Kahlua and cream ( one each, but a good-sized one ).
