I have to wonder what this guy was up to. Maybe the police stopped another mass killing before it could occur. He had more rounds of ammunition than the San Bernardino killers.
Massive weapons hoard found at home of arrested L.I. man A Long Island man impersonating a federal Air Marshal has been arrested for having a frightening cache of weapons, ammo and body armor, officials said Friday. Investigators are trying to unravel what Mark Vicars was doing with the weapons but said he has no apparent links to terrorism.
Acting on a tip, authorities stopped Vicars, 49, in his 2014 Dodge Durango on the Jericho Turnpike in Syosset about 7:40 a.m. Thursday, officials said. Vicars, who lives in Syosset, turned on flashing lights and brandished a fake shield identifying himself as a federal Air Marshal when stopped, officials said. Cops found he was carrying a knife and a .380-caliber pistol. They then searched his home, finding a loaded assault rifle, a ballistic body armor vest, a tactical vest and three high-capacity magazines carrying 8,300 rounds. Although he had a fake badge, a parking placard, hat and other items indicating that he worked for Homeland Security, Vicars has never been employed by any law enforcement agency, authorities said.
He has no criminal record, officials said.

I copied this article from a post by Tennesseer on another thread, and I believe this deserves a thread of it's own.
Please note, he was "arrested for a for having a frightening cache of weapons, ammo and body armor, officials said Friday." Investigators are trying to unravel what Mark Vicars was doing with the weapons but said he has no apparent links to terrorism. Is that legal? How about for impersonation of a Federal Marshal? That I would understand. Funny how Feds can get citizens easily, but terrorists have too many rights to catch them.

This is again one of those situations which is very short on details. What was the nature of the "tip" that police received? Assume that there was probable cause for a search warrant of his home. As far as why he was arrested, I don't trust these short little news stories to be all that accurate as to the specifics of charges.

It is highly unlikely the feds can get him on the weapons charge. I doubt there is a state or ferderal law limiting amounts of guns and/or ammo.
The impersonating IS a chargable crime. I believe all levels & jurisdictions have laws regaring that.

Just wondering, How many guns are too many, How much ammo would considered too much?
Any one here care to say how much is too? ( in your humble opinion) .
Or does it actually make any difference?

Well the feds have no problem targeting white males with tats and shaved heads or specific motorcycle groups, who fit specific profiles. I just do not understand how they cannot do it to potential terrorists of minority ethnic groups who fit specific profiles.

Apparently two ISIS terrorists were caught at one of those gatherings outside of a mosque in Texas. We aren't going to hear about all those plots they stop. We unfortunately will hear too much about those they do not.

I just do not understand how they cannot do it to potential terrorists of minority ethnic groups who fit specific profiles. I think a key is to look at exactly what is meant by "specific profiles". It is significant that "motorcycle groups" has to have the "specific" added to it. They couldn't target just any, but specific ones of the general category have earned the special attention of the feds. Skin a little darker or the follower of a religion different than the majority of people doesn't fit my definition of "specific". Seems to be a little general to me.
