The family is demanding an apology from Van Duyne and others involved because they would like to return to Irving, attorney Kelly Hollingsworth said.
“Qatar is nice, but it is not Texas. That is their attitude toward this,” Hollingsworth said. “They are citizens of Irving, Texas, USA, first. Are they devout people devoted to their faith? Absolutely. But they are Texans, too, and they want to come home. What we are seeking is for them to be able to do that with their heads held high.”
--> Yes, we want an apology, our dignity...and $15 million cash.
So where do I sign up to pull a publicity/political stunt, get arrested for a little while, get accolades from the president, and get paid $15 million? Seriously I'd do it. It would probably be easier to have Billy Cosby sexually assault you.

OK, 'would like to' with a lawsuit. They are misguided if they are thinking winning a lawsuit like this would make them more welcome.
They can hold their heads low, high, or regular with or without a lawsuit.

I assume a lot of that figure is to punish the school and the police, rather than compensate for damages to the kid.
They deserve it- they knew it wasn't a bomb and arrested him anyway. Pay the kid enough for a free ride through college, the expenses incurred by the family, and make them pay the rest to charity- helping out the refugees perhaps.

The city and the school "deserve" to pay $15 million dollars for arresting a kid who perpetrated a bomb hoax? I know he had to suffer through a back patting session with Pres. Obama as the token Islamic kid, but shouldn't it be the White House shelling out the $15M compensation for that? I don't think the city realized that's what they'd be bringing down on him.

The kid is a US citizen and I think the parents have some sort of legal immigration status. The parents are from Sudan and we have a lot of refugees from there.

I haven't kept up with family but does this mean the boy is an anchor baby? Were the parents refugees? I guess I need to go google them. But they've learned the American Way quickly - everybody's gonna sue. I've been trying to figure out who I can sue too!!!

I didn't see any information on the parent's status, which is why I am guessing refugee. If the parents are legal I don't think the son can be counted as an anchor baby, and I couldn't imagine they would leave the country on a whim if they didn't have legal status to get back in.

You're right. Didn't think about them having legal status.

I'll have to read it again thoroughly. I see where it says "location" but still haven't landed on the words born or American citizen. But like I said will go thru it again since I am also watching football and not multi tasking very well right now.

I read something, somewhere that said the father's been here since the 1980s, so the kid was born here. Haven't read anything about the parents' citizenship. Both are Sudanese; although, the dad was previously married to an American woman. I'll see if I can find the article I read. Can't remember where I saw it.
