Sure. Why not? More money for Isis. I knew this was a big scam from day 1.

That is just ridiculous. They really need to fight that in court instead of paying him to go away.

Honestly: if there was a proposal to deport one lawyer for every refugee brought in from Syria, I would fall in love with Syrian refugees so fast...

How about he cough up some money to pay for the pain and suffering of the kids in that school who were subjected to a "clock" that looked a whole lot like a bomb?
Move on, buttercup. You've had your 15 minutes of fame. And if you don't want to be treated like a potential terrorist, don't bring your clock/bombs out in public.
We owe you nothing.

Yes, it must have been so hard and traumatizing to be the center of attention and have so much freaking support from everyone, including Obama.
Well, then again, getting support from Obama could be really traumatizing.....

Well, then again, getting support from Obama could be really traumatizing..... The high & lows could have been confusing and perhaps traumatizing. Not 5, 10 or $15 million worth IMO. Looks like the family & lawyer have decided they want monetary compensation instead of just taking the experience and going happily all in into their new life.
If they are smart, they will be thankful the Paris attacks occurred after they left.

I can imagine that being likened to a towel headed terrorist in the national media is not a fun thing.

I can imagine that being likened to a towel headed terrorist in the national media is not a fun thing. He should sue the media. In fact, why not sue America itself, for being scared of Muslims? He could sue humanity. For being humanity. I should sue all of you guys. Do you know how much emotional distress and severe psychological trauma I've experienced on this board due to your endless insinuations that I'm a rabid fundie? People ask me "Do you have the time?" and I scream back at them "6:30! It's 6:30 local time. I don't mean to insinuate that the local time zone is superior to other time zones, I simply believe it to be more relevant in this social context."

And the kid's integrity goes to zero...
And I see the family wants to return to America after only a few weeks in Qatar...what a family of nimrods. IMO, this kind of gives meat to the accusations of this being a setup/hoax.

Evidently life in Qatar isn't all roses .......
Get rid of the sue-happy attorneys and return to a US education system where you can learn to make the world a better place.
You've had your 15 minutes of fame, now it's time to get back to being an unknown student.
BS on your "severe psychological trauma,"

If this lawsuit is successful, then the terrorists have won.
But wait a minute! If he loses the lawsuit, the terrorists have also won ...
What a dilemma. What should we do?
Surrender, maybe?

IMO, this is not being done by a 14-year-old kid. This is his parents, not the kid. I'd not be surprised if some less-than-ethical attorney jumped on this case (and the parents) in an effort to build his own name. I'm darned well not going to denigrate a child for it.

But he was an engineering student attending an engineering focused high school! That's is all the proof you need he intended to scare the whole school with his hoax bomb.

I really hope the parents come to their senses and drop this, especially if they want to be welcome in Texas or even the US again. I believe the whole mess started because the kid wasn't smart enough to take the engineering teacher's suggestion and turn the thing off, perhaps even leaving it in that classroom. So while that other teacher did act badly, and the police did as well, any settlement should take into consideration intentional stupidity on the kids part.
Plus I think one would then need to subtract the value of going to the WH, Google, etc. He might qualify for maybe a few hundred thousand in damages from the school & police, but his parents would be wise IMO to not pursue it. Unless of course they plan to remain out of the US and just want the money. MHO.

I doubt much is going to come of this lawsuit nor should it. I just think it is down right silly for some to assert the young man and his clock was a dry run for ISIS attacking our schools.

The operative question is whether the family is malicious or simply stupid. If they really are coming back from Qatar after just a few weeks, my vote is for "stupid". The thing with stupid people is that, like George Zimmerman, they're guaranteed to eventually make you regret ever supporting them.

I have read nothing that suggests they are moving back to the US. Filing a lawsuit in the US does not require them to move back here.

I have read nothing that suggests they are moving back to the US. Filing a lawsuit in the US does not require them to move back here. www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/lawyer-reveals-new-details-of-arrest-of-clock-kid-ahmed-now-seeking-15-million-damages/2015/11/23/7589f682-91f5-11e5-a2d6-f57908580b1f_story.html
The family is demanding an apology from Van Duyne and others involved because they would like to return to Irving, attorney Kelly Hollingsworth said.
“Qatar is nice, but it is not Texas. That is their attitude toward this,” Hollingsworth said. “They are citizens of Irving, Texas, USA, first. Are they devout people devoted to their faith? Absolutely. But they are Texans, too, and they want to come home. What we are seeking is for them to be able to do that with their heads held high.”
--> Yes, we want an apology, our dignity...and $15 million cash.
