Do the states even have any power to stop immigration? I thought all the immigration process was done at the Federal level - this may be just posturing by the states.
Are all these governors up for re-election?

If there is money involved Arkansas will have their hand out. Our city of 80K that is already over run with Hispanics is on the list to accept some of them that according to what I've read have already been off loaded in New Orleans.
My DH wants to get his carry permit now, maybe I should too. I already have my semi automatic.

Are all these governors up for re-election? From what I understand, the feds let them in and most states have to support them. Hence stopping financial support. As other countries have shown, stop the gravy train and they move on

What I want to know is -- if ISIS is such a threat (and I'm not saying they aren't) -- why didn't these states shut down the influx of Syrian immigrants in early April, after 140+ Kenyan college students were gunned down? Where was the worldwide call to action then? I had to find a CNN article to get the date of that attack, so I won't say there was NO media coverage, but I sure as hell didn't see a bunch of Kenyan flag profile pictures all over Facebook.
This just feels like political posturing.

The terrorists have won. They have instilled fear in us and now we won't help refugees.

Since so many of the terrorists were French, shouldn't we be shutting the doors to French nationals?

Even if no refugees are allowed, what is to stop the folks already here from doing harm to our citizens and cities. And they are here.

dubious remark. i think v ery few (if any) blue states will go along with this idea. Might want to rethink that one because I'm thinking some of these count as "blue states": abcnews.go.com/US/states-refuse-accept-syrian-refugees-wake/story?id=35231800It's probably actually not a horrible idea to review the situation because not doing so can cause worse long-term ramifications. I don't think it's the right answer long-term, but for the short-run, probably work consideration. I've already seen FB post filling up about how it's all about racism...it's like a one-trick pony that even in times like this people want to get that jab in instead of actually admitting that maybe we need to review the situation to make sure there isn't something else we could be doing differently.

Do the states even have any power to stop immigration? I thought all the immigration process was done at the Federal level - this may be just posturing by the states. Are all these governors up for re-election? Considering that the federal government has said states don't even have the power to stop illegal immigration, I doubt it; and even if only certain states "accept refugees," it's not like there is a requirement (nor should there be) to keep everyone from moving to other states.
