Number seven conservative city Anaheim California Was a surprise to me. Anaheim is part of Orange County, a Republican stronghold. And Orange County has not voted for a Democratic president since FDR.

they also sent B1 Bob to congress a few times. what a character.
edit: actually, much of the interior region of CA is quite conservative. it is also fairly rural.

Hence the reason some Californians would like to break up the state into 3 or 4 new states. the most common split is to make Jefferson a new state (roughly 1/4 of the Northern part). but yes, there have been lots of proposals, including one that is quite active right now.

Boston was only the 5th most liberal city. that surprised me, until I remembered the "nouveau riche" that have infested MetroWest where I grew up. take a look at the big mall I went to as a kid - it was rebranded the Collection when they built a high-end wing that included the likes of Neiman Marcus and other stores that had traditionally been found in places like Snooton. those sort of people that buy an older ranch or Cape and tear it down to build a McMansion on the 1/4 acre lot in walking distance to the commuter rail.....but they drive their Infinity or Lexus to the station and pay $4/day to park. it's been my experience that these newcomers want nothing to do with making the town better, just stashing their cash while they take the tax breaks of home ownership and commute in to the city. we just had an override vote in my new town, and it failed. the discussion breakdowns have been interesting, to say the least. and that's probably more than I should have said... oh well.

Berkeley isn't tolerant of anyone other than those they approve of

Conservative - tradionalists, limiting change
I'm a traditionalist (my version) in that I believe in the preamble trumps all

The way I see it Ombud, the Preamble promotes tolerance so, that makes you a liberal! Not or necesarily a democrat but a liberal nonetheless.

A liberal Republican? I vascillate between states rights and federal rights .... whichever gives more. All the while believing that we measure a person by how they contribute to society, care for their family, and the length of their rap sheet. That's what I tell the kids

Otherwise, not so tolerant

I would have said that I live in a pretty conservative place, but that's been changing for a number of years. I know a few people who now want to move out of state to retire someplace that's much more conservative than here. Good riddance.

Otherwise, not so tolerant oh come ON! when have ever told you or anyone else what to think? on the contrary, my goal is to make everyone think more and think differently, including MYSELF. sheesh. Exactly. The big concern is when others feel entitled or authorized to think for them. Liberals will be very consistent that you can think or believe whatever you want. They may argue or fight against actions (particularly or even exclusively if those actions harm someone else) but generally consider thoughts or beliefs to be one's own.
And as a general rule, ANYONE who tries to tell you what to think is NOT a liberal in any sense of the term. They can be a lot of things, but liberal is not one of them.
