hopefully he got himself to the campus medical center ASAP - pink eye is ridiculously contagious. I remember getting a sinus infection during my freshman year. I think I just blew my nose and slept all day (missing 2-3 classes) and ended up feeling somewhat better the next day. My mom was one of those people who wasn't going to the doctor unless it was life or death.

College is just one giant petri dish. I'm sure the "sleeping all day" is what helped to make you feel better. College students have a knack for getting run down and, in that giant petri dish, that's just an open door. Make sure that YOU are getting enough rest these days, missy.

973beachbum: If you don't mind sharing, how is the off-campus house working so far? We're still exploring a similar option for the next 2 years. The local rental market clearly takes advantage of the student renters -- poor quality housing at outrageous rental rates. ODS is in a college-owned house this year with 11 other guys and, while he now has access to a kitchen to cook for himself, it is a little too crowded for his liking. So, I'm already starting to think ahead. If you'd rather PM me, that's definitely fine.

Glad I got bored and looked in here, DS pretty much does his own thing with his school money stuff, but not sure he knew about the new FAFSA deadline. Well, it's not really a deadline is it? It's just that you can file earlier. Look it was late Friday afternoon, deadline/start time/whatever.

So, I'm already starting to think ahead. If you'd rather PM me, that's definitely fine. I don't actually know really yet. I think it is working for her more than us right now mostly. The housing market near DD's college isn't what I think of as a usual one. It is more urban with farms around it. The rental market seems to take advantage of everyone. The rental prices are really high compared to the purchase price although there are more expensive areas obviously. But looking close to campus most were about $1000 plus utilities a month. For a town that has tons of homes for sale for less than $50,000 that just seems high to me. We have been trying to fix up the house although most of what we are "fixing" was actually by design not broken. the house is 80 years old and the way that house was built to begin with just doesn't make sense to us. For starters there is a bathroom inside a bedroom, or a bedroom in a bathroom, I can't tell which. But that was on purpose and according to the town it still counts as legal bedroom. The part slowing us down really is the town has tons of obnoxious inspections all in the name of "habitability". The first one they informed us of pretty quick but wouldn't do it until all the paperwork was though and they don't do things fast. So we have had to wait to do the bigger things until they decide to let us live there. The, hopefully, last one is next week. Then we can change some things finally that have been on the list since we bought the place. What do they think people do when they buy a home, and a cheap one at that, wait around for six months while they play with paperwork to finally let them move in? And based on driving around this house isn't even close to the worst, but apparently that's okay since they didn't just buy it.
