If you pull up a weather map right now you'll see a line of storms in the Midwest with angry red and yellow spots.
I'm under one of the red spots right now. The building actually shook from a lightening strike somewhere close by. Shit - I'm in downtown Chicago - this never happens!!!
Praying this stuff is over with before the commute home!!!

I don't like hurricanes, earthquakes, mudslides, or wild fires. See, we have miserable weather 4 months out of the year. Ice and snow and stuff. In exchange for that, we're not supposed to get severe storm fronts. (Come up for a nice long drive during January and then we'll see who's the amateur!)

I heard Boston hit a season-high 96 today and there are thunderstorms popping up west of us, so we may have an interesting evening... It's even too hot out for me and I usually like the heat.

The cold and snow are not a problem for me. For my car, without snow tires or chains or four-wheel drive, yes. For me, no. I think if I attempted to drive my subcompact in snow, it would skid off the road and become a four-wheeled snowball. You'd see me careening down Michigan Avenue, little red Versa butt over teakettle, packing on snow and ricocheting off buildings like a 1970s pinball game.

So I guess since it's headed east. I'll be getting it too. I hope it's not on my commute to my meeting on the other side of town. Traffic around here sucks during that time of day anyway.

Praying this stuff is over with before the commute home!!! Meh. It wasn't that great of a storm. No one felt the need to go up to the conference rooms at the top of the building to watch for lightening strikes on other buildings. (we're on too low of a floor to see anything other than the side of the building next door or across the street.) Lightning strikes are cool. They happen all the time.
It's a bad storm when the sky turns greenish/blackish/grayish and you can see the wall of rain (or maybe hail) heading for the city -- and usually the wind will make the windows go "Whump!" when it hits - right before the intercom "Emergency" message comes thru telling every one to move away from the windows and to go to interior offices or stairwells.
That's a bad storm.

For us, bad is when there is hail, or the lightning strikes are cloud-to-ground. Those suckers punch holes in your roof and start fires in your yard. Rain here rarely spawns a tornado, though we do get some impressive water spouts over the ocean; but unless you are in a boat out there, a water spout's not an issue.

It missed me, it missed me. No, the tornado does not need to kiss me. The saying goes. If you work in Chicago then you have to learn to cope with the weather.

I'm gonna guess you're in one of those REALLY tall buildings. Yanno, the ones we count on to be our lightening rods ! My building only has 25 floors, so for us to feel a big KABOOM it's really a rare event. I think this is actually the first time in four years that we had one hit this close. That and we're really close to Lake Michigan so the water tends to attract the closer strikes anyway...

Be careful, one of those water spouts could turn into a Sharknado. We drove thru an awful storm on the way back from the fair a couple of weeks ago. I saw what I was pretty sure was a wall cloud and it was rotating. My parents kept looking out the window as well. None of us said anything out loud b/c Gwen was already scared out of her wits. Couple days later someone posted a picture of the storm. .. yep that cloud spawned a tornado about an hour later.
