So those who actually remember anything that I post know I'm pretty much a plain vanilla, almost as conservative as they get, tax professional.
No tattoos, only one piercing in each ear, no hair color etc. Really as milk and white bread as they get.
When I was younger I promised myself I'd get a second set of piercings in my ears when I passed the CPA exam as an incentive.
Well, that never happened. Several milestones have come and gone and I still never did it because the original goal was never achieved.
So why am I considering a second set of piercings now? I'm set in my career, have nothing to prove (and actually will raise a few eyebrows at my ultra conservative company if I do it) and have a teen daughter I need to set a (conservative) example for. It's not like I need to act out a rebellious phase of youth.
Maybe I should just get a small tat somewhere only DH could see? But then the tattoo artist would have to see that area and well, I'm conservative and all, so we know the dilemma here, right?
Ok, fine. I'll just go back to my numbers.

I think multiple piercings are so common now, double piercings won't raise any real alarms. I think feedback you get will be mostly positive. I can't imagine it would affect your career.
Ditto for a discrete tat.
I like Sroo's comment. I let DD get double piercings when she was 16. refused to let her do her bellybutton. I told her when she was 18 she could make those decisions. Well she is 18 now and her bellybutton is done, and a few more bodypiercings. DS has a tattoo and he used to have small gages, but he took them out now.

Why captain! I never! (You're so bold!) Personally, I'd go for the piercings. But that's just a matter of taste / preference.

I got a flu shot and a shingles shot in the same week, just to ge them over with. I was a miserable pile of hot mess for days. Did I mention I hate needles? I actually have a high pain tolerance, mind you.

Do something a little less radical, Captain, like getting you nose pierced.
I still don't understand how folks can clear out/clean out their nose by blowing while having equipment in their nose.

I don't have my ears pierced. My mom and my aunts didn't either because my grandma said only gypsies and women of ill repute get their ears pierced. For my grandparents 50th anniversary my grandpa got my grandma diamond earrings. That woman got her ears pierced so fast I'm surprised the earrings didn't fall off!! Then my mom and aunts did. By that time I was old and I think it's a habit you start young. I don't wear earrings now and just never developed the habit. DD does but I made her wait until she was 12 bcuz she was such a wild child and I wanted her to care for them herself. I think about it from time to time but probably never will do it.

A little LESS radical?!? Can you imagine me giving my annual presentation to the board of directors with a nose piercing?!? I'm fairly certain I'd cause at least one, maybe two hear attacks! For the board - I'm with Tenn on not quite understanding the mechanics of keeping stuff clean, BUT have worked with many eastern Indian women with nose piercings that I consider very attractive.

Bingo! I had a second hole done in each lobe back in the early 80's. Nobody at work gave it a second thought or glance - (I worked in conservative Engineering & Accounting).
I usually wore small gold hoops or jeweled/colored studs or small earrings in each hole to match what I was wearing.
Even to this day, I still wear a small gold hoop (or sleeper earring) in each hole. When I had mine done (as I mentioned, back in the dark ages), the jeweler/piercer didn't use a needle - they used a piercing tool (or gun). They just marked the lobe with a tiny dot where the hole was to be placed, then "shot" the stud or sleeper hoop into the spot with the tool. It was instant and painless - I felt nothing. All I had to do for a week or so was keep the new hole cleansed with rubbing alcohol and to rotate/turn the earring two or three times a day til the hole was fully healed.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_piercing_instrumentSome nose studs are so tiny they're barely even noticeable -You don't have to wear a hoop in your nose. A tiny stud will just give off a hint of a "sparkle" if the light hits them just right.

For those of you who have failed ever to have a piercing thing.....or a tattoo. You are not alone. There is at least one alive on this planet right now.....ME....who is absolutely totally paranoid about (shudder) needles!!! I have always and will forever stay as far away from them as humanly possible!

I don't have my ears pierced.
I was 37 when I had my ears pierced and DH#1 came unglued. He came from an Arkansas So Baptist family and the only women with pierced ears were 'not nice'. I wore small stud type earrings, 14K gold, all the time.
My ears never did heal correctly and after about 30 years I stopped wearing earrings. One hole has closed and both holes get a bit crusty every couple of months.
I clean them with alcohol wipes and forget them. I have some beautiful earrings that the kids can have after I'm gone.
ETA: I hate needles to the point I tell someone coming at me that I'm a fainter. When the piercing was done, it was done with a 'gun' and I almost fainted. DD was 17 at that time and the day she turned 18 I took her to get her ears done. By then DH#1 was OK with it.

I was 40 before getting my ears pierced. My son gave me a gift certificate to earring place that pierced. Well, I couldn't disappoint the kiddo so I bit the bullet and had it done. After being on this board, I wonder how much more I would have saved over the years if my love of earrings hadn't cost me so much. I feel downright naked without my earrings

I have 4 holes in each lobe and one cartilage piercing in each ear (up top). I wear white gold and diamond hoops in each hole and white diamond studs from my grandma up top. I work in a very conservative field as well and I've only received compliments on my earrings. Could be area or regionally dependent, I suppose. I want a tattoo but will have to get one where it's not visible. That's pushing it a bit at my job.

I'm in a fairly liberal industry, so multiple piercings in each ear are not a problem. One woman who works at my company, but in a different department, has a nose piercing and no one says anything about it. And she's not a "lifer" here, either. Just recently, I got a tattoo on the back of my neck. I have long hair that covers when it I'm at work. Until I decided to cut my hair. I forgot about needing long hair to cover the tattoo, and about 1/3 of it shows. So far, everyone who's noticed it (surprisingly very few have) have all commented on how pretty it is, even my boss. I was mortified when she first saw it, but it didn't phase her. I know it's not true for every industry, but tattoos and multiple ear piercings don't seem to carry the same stigma they did even just 25 years ago. I also know that at least for my tattoos (my others are all hidden by clothing except at the beach), they can be covered/I can grow my hair out and no one will be the wiser. The Captain, I say go for it! Get the second piercing! Be a rebel!

I have double ear piercings, a tattoo, and I color/highlight my hair. I'm doing OK...........
The tat is never visible in work clothes, it's on my upper back/shoulder area.

I see we need a field trip to gather up some YMAM folks get them drunk and take them to the tattoo/piercing parlor I really am opposed to tattoos...and yet I think I should get one... Copious amounts of alcohol could squelch my absolutely sane reasons why this would be a bad idea and yet I kinda want to do it anyway And who am I? Whenever I think about politicians who flip flop, I have to look at my own views on tattoos are bad/I want one.

Now, I was 30 when we went together for the first one, not 16, but still. It was a complete 180 from her original view point. All that to say, DO IT!!
