*TheCaptain*: So how was your first day of school?
*DD*: Uuuggghh
*TC*: Really?
*DD*:Wrong room twice, got lost, friends brother worried us because we couldn't fine him, homework, bff is on the other team
*TC*: Oh, ok. Everyone has a day like tha..
*DD*: THEN the lunchlady called me a boy and I took the wrong books to class and went down the wrong hall, again! Volleyball, band, reading club
*TC*: Oh, sweetie, sounds like a pretty normal first day, right?
*DD*: Uuuggghh
DD's school is up to almost 1000 kids now (jr high) 100 more than last year (10%+ growth). Logistics are getting to be a nightmare. Her lunch starts at 10:45. They get out of school at 3:30. From the sounds of it getting from one class to another is going to be a rush. I've sent her with some snacky bits for the afternoon. Her Jr. High sounds a lot like my college when it comes to running around.

Wow - that's a lot of students for a Jr High!
First days (even week) getting oriented as to where your classes are, etc are always confusing and a PITA - that's only compounded by the # of kids racing from one classroom to the next.
Sounds like she's got a busy schedule, but it'll all fall into place once she gets into the rhythm of it.

Yea, I told her she'll be fine. It's kinda cute. The friend has a brother who is a 6th grader. DD and her friend feel like they have to watch out for him because they're the older kids now. DD being an only child, has no idea how that poor boy feels. To be fair I guess he lacks a filter and is small for his age. I'm kinda glad the school is so big. It's hard NOT to find a clique you can fall into. At DD's old school she was the only one into Sci-Fi and Anime /Magna. At her new school she's in with a great group of nerds and is coming into her own. As far as the schedule, it's a little heavier this year as she's in a few advanced classes, but I think she'll do fine.

New building...different structures.....blue days, red days, purple days, black days......"A" days ..."B" days...throw in some common core to freak out parents, grandparents.....What on earth could be hectic and confusing about that?

Then add in what brats & bullies some of the junior high kids can be. Those were my least favorite years in school, & my own kids didn't enjoy those grades much, either.
Be sure you tell her when she gets home that high school is MUCH better.

Yea, right? She's on the gold team. They have a green and silver team as well. Then we have the "A", "B" and "C" schedules. The kids rotate schedules through the year (basically different electives and class times get switched so no one has math all year at 8am). She's on "C" schedule now and DOES have math as her first class (advanced math at that). The school is teaching to common core, no exemptions. The number of standardized tests the kids have to take each year is just nucking futs! Her Jr. High has more kids than my HS. At the rate the district is growing the HS will only have 300-400 fewer kids than the university I attended.

Be sure you tell her when she gets home that high school is MUCH better. (Crossing fingers) for me HS was brutal in terms of bullying. DD seems more self confident that I was at her age and she's got a pretty solid little crew who seem to have each other's backs. But yea, I was more self assured in HS so did better with the bitches then, as opposed to Jr High. Gah! I thought potty training was hard!

Mark Weiner (from the movie Welcome To The Dollhouse ): All of junior high school sucks. High school's better; it's closer to college. They'll call you names, but not as much to your face.

Be sure you tell her when she gets home that high school is MUCH better. Yeah, used to be you could get away with just punching the bullies in the face. Usually resolved the problem. These days, the kid who punches the bully gets expelled from school.
