I actually did have a wolf for a pet. A Grey Timber Wolf named Volchok. I don't recommend it.

Just to be perfectly clear, Weltz kept a pet wolf because she's nuts, not because that's something Canadians actually do. Ditto for the rats and bats. And would-be snakes, tarantulas, foxes, ...

I'm sorry, Virgil. I really feel for you. Mother would be weeping with empathy. She hated the heat! Somehow, I've never thought about Canada getting hot. I always think of it blanketed in snow, even though I realize (intellectually) that's not how it is. I can't imagine having to live in that heat and humidity without air conditioning. Well, that's odd! Do you also picture us living in igloos and hitching up the dog sled to go down to the trading post?
LOL! Nah. I know about the igloos. Y'all don't live in igloos. You gots real houses! About the dogs and sleds ... I'm not sure. I imagine dog sleds could be a problem in the city, what with the cars, and such.

I wouldn't recommend it either (the guy, or a wolf! ) The wolf was a beautiful animal, but it wasn't getting the proper care/training. PS You totally got me on this one! No less odd than the rest of the world picturing the southern American states as populated with cousin lovin', toothless, uneducated rednecks. And we could go on and on and on......

Portable room air conditioner.
Problem solved. A 12,000 BTU portable room air conditioner costs $800.00 plus tax in Canada. I checked. Plus we're lacking storage space as it is. I can live until Wednesday. You don't have kids. Both you and Mrs. Virgil work. Open up the wallet.

Wild wolves are very, very different than dogs, with an incredibly strong sense of hierarchy. It became....problematic.
(Volchok was a sweetie-pie, though. To me.)

The wolf was quite young when he got it, he told me. I don't know where he got it from. He said it was illegal, at the time, for him to have it. It was about 2 yrs old & was pretty nice, when I met him. By the time we broke up, a yr or two later, it had become hard for him to handle / control. They don't make good, unique, city pets. Especially when they are left alone 18+ hrs a day. -Part of the remaining 6 hrs were spent sleeping. Far from ideal, in my opinion. Hey, Virgie! You be coo yet? -Just checkin'!

Not only has it been hovering around 105 this week with the humidex in Montreal, but this morning, there was an alligator wandering around on the streets. Yes, I said alligator. Not a seal or a polar bear or a beaver.

Coastal California. It's not like the central valley or mountains. Coldest month is January when the average high/low is 60/38. Hottest month is August when the average high/low is 82/54. We're basically in the seventies year round, which is fine. At night you close the windows, during warmer days you open them and enjoy the breeze. Usually, no AC required. Usually. Stupid El Nino this year isn't getting with the program. We hit 100 yesterday and there was no breeze whatsoever. I thought about hiding in the garage fridge from like 11am to 8pm. Now I know where I'm moving to. It's generally 100°+ with 97%+ humidity in the summer time.

Are you old enough to remember using one of these? I'm trying to help you out, Virgil! It gets plenty hot here, in the summer. But at least we don't usually have a lot of humidity with it! I'm staying inside this year. I go shopping and things later, when it isn't so hot. I don't find sweat all that attractive, or comfortable. Last year I spent $500-600 trying to get my car A/C fixed. Found out this year it wasn't. Ugh. Have now spent an additional $1,000 on two more repairs, to fix it. But I think it's actually repaired now. (I hope!) I don't like being either too hot, or too cold. I want things top work, so I can be Just Right! -I'm old. I deserve it! -So says me. Tee hee... I used to have a convertible. If it was hot, I drove with the top down and the A/C going full blast. If it was chilly, I drove with the top down and the heat on. Not always, but a lot. LMAO It was fun. Not real practical, but fun. zoom, zoom...

I did the same thing. What is the point of having a convertible if you have the top up??

Both you and Mrs. Virgil work. Open up the wallet. It is too hot for Virgil to think clearly, can you not see that? If his brain was still working he would have paid you to buy one at Costco and drive it up to him . . . or me, depending on which side of Canada he habitates in. The $300 A/C flew off the shelves when our heat wave started. People were complaining that only $600 ones were left. And then the temps went even higher. And you shouldda heard the screaming when no area stores had any A/C's left at all!! I do not understand people in million dollar homes that don't have central air or the willingness to buy a portable A/C. It was nutsoville around here.

Virgil Showlion I'm assuming he did show up on Wed. and you're nicely chilled now? No. Damned Best Buy is run by snow leopard lovers. Package didn't show up on the 19th. No call. No notice. We figured we'd give them the 20th too. Nothing. So I enter my order into their order tracking service. Site crashes. "Oops. There's an error. Can you please fill out this form and report it to us." Try it again with a different browser. Same thing. Screw this, I'll call their 'award winning' customer service line. Get the phone tree. Beep, beep, beep, .... "You can track your order by using our award-winning online order tracker. Just visit bestbuy.ca. Thank you for calling." <click> What the heck did they win an award for? Most Impenetrable Bureaucracy? Hence I filled out their form and if they don't have their website together by Monday, I'm going to find out where they're headquartered, find me one of their snow leopard loving executives, and camp on his lawn until my air conditioner shows up on my doorstep. The only good news is that it's finally cooled down to reasonable temperatures in Toronto.

Window mount a/c went out, couldn't get a new one, blah blah blah. It was so freaking hot, and had been for days. I was tired of hearing excuses, so when I talked to the manager about it and he told me he would call the property owner, I said Okay, in my nicest tone of voice. Then I had a seat on his couch, in front of his a/c! He about died! When he asked what I was doing, I said waiting for you to call the landlord, but it's too hot outside, and in my apt, so I thought I'd wait here. Oh man. That got some action! -Still makes me laugh to myself. It sucks to be miserable. Sorry. (Damn Snow Leopard lovers! -tee-hee) Are you sure they aren't palm tree leopards? Just checking!
