I had heard about it and then kind of forgot about it until this article and pictures..scan to the bottom..a picture of a parking lot of 10,000 new imported cars destroyed and in the back ground..pictures of very large office building s or what ever completely gutted..gives a idea of of the destruction..over 100 dead..estimated to rise to 200 and no mention of those just wounded and hurt..maimed and burned...I know, over a billion and a half folks one country...[ unbelievable in itself..} but still.... Try and think if it had happened here...the story and...Pray the folks recover and get well... www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/08/fears-missing-firefighters-china-toll-climbs-150816040329059.html

Potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and sodium cyanide: perfect recipe for disaster. First two are basic ingredients for explosives/bombs or simply put dynamite. The third one-sodium cyanide- breaks down because of heat or dissolving with water and you got one of the most powerful poisons on earth. They will be lucky if the death toll stops at a couple hundred.
This is is the result of no regulation or very lax regulation. Maybe this incident will get them thinking.

One can only hope so mroped. However my observation has been the Chinese government views it's citizens as a tool to be used, not something to be protected.
I think it will take international pressure, in the form of companies refusing to buy from China unless certain standards are met, before serious reform will happen.

Regulations and taxes, Who ever the Chinese government deems responsible will drug out, hanged or die before a firing squad. After a 10 minute trial, with that kind of punishment, little fine "$" is kinda petty. Yea, I bet those responsible are really worried about A fine"$".

Add to the fact the firemen were not aware of what chemical they were fighting, and caused the explosion when they used the water hoses to put it out, which actually ignited the chemical explosion.....

I heard this AM that this warehouse was illegally storing all these hazardous chemicals.
I have no doubt they will shoot or imprison the owner of the warehouse (if they can find him) but that won't do anything to curb all the other warehouses also storing haz mats illegally - that would require some kind of government inspection/enforcement program which they don't have.
China will be interesting to watch, they used to have about 10% growth in their economy, which helped covered up a lot of discontent among the population about unabated pollution, healthcare that can only be accessed by bribing the doctors, etc. Now the economic growth has taken a significant dip and this catastrophe has once again highlighted how much their government misleads them and keeps a lid on their media - right after this incident happened the government shut off a lot of internet sites in order to 'eliminate fear mongering.' This leaves a lot of clueless and angry citizens in an economy that is not longer roaring.

I've been following this on zerohedge. The explosion was so large that it produced a visible shockwave on cellphone recordings more than a kilometer away. The problem now is toxic rain laced with cyanide. They same reason they banned their mutual funds from selling stocks, or issuing reports containing "panic words".

Please, the USDA approved sending chickens to China to be broken down and repacked, then refrozen and shipped back to the US. Companies want cheap labor, they're not going to force this unless PEOPLE force them too.

Wait til the toxic cloud hits California...... Obama will demand California to reduce their pollution transmissions another 25% you have it backwards. the US is way behind CA in terms of emissions standards. raising the federal standard would have almost no impact on CA.

Cyanide Thunderstorms - sounds like a grunge rock band name.
I guess when you have a country with so many people in it you can afford to have them camping out in 'relocation' centers close to where the fire was, just waiting for the cyanide clouds to hit them, telling them 'No need to panic.'
Maybe they're using them as human canaries.
I had a co-worker who went to China on business and witnessed highway construction being done by men with buckets and shovels. No heavy equipment of any kind. That's what you get when labor is dirt cheap and dead workers don't matter.

I bet the emissions from all the wildfires exceeds the atmospheric pollution from any other state. (Washington state running a close second?)

I am sure the threat of dying before a firing squad is nothing compared to getting a fine"$"!
That for sure would not stop me from operating an illegal operation down the street. but getting a fine "$" would be devastating.

Doesn't the communist part own all means of production?

Doesn't the communist part own all means of production? Apparently not. This is in Beijing, which is second only to Hong Kong in terms of "degree of capitalism". The Party (or at least, its members) probably have a finger or two in every pie, but not majority ownership. Their economy is simply too big. A colleague of mine worked in China for about a year at a relatively high level. She described CPC officials as the real-world equivalent of Jabba the Hut. They're like corpulent worms that show up on a whim and are instantly subject to the red carpet treatment. If they like you, they might buy a few million shares of your company. If they don't like you, well... you might suddenly find that you're the "owner" of a giant cyanide that just exploded.
