No kidding. CPS "loses" kids who wind up dead but let's harass one family doing nothing wrong but letting their kid play. I'm thinking neighbor tasering is in order.

Apparently, a neighbor did notice the kid alone and called the authorities. Gee, thanks neighbor, for getting the cops and CPS involved. Now the parents must defend themselves in court, they are mandated to attend family therapy and the kids have to go to a supervised camp. All because you stuck your snout where it did not belong. Maybe if you had come out of your damned house and asked the kid if everything was OK first. Or...oh, gee, I dunno....maybe offered to sit outside with him. But no....getting the authorities involved, when they could be dealing with real situations, is a much better option. What a jerk. And shame on the authorities as well, for letting this go as far as it has. I hope the courts laugh in the face of the cops and CPS and throw it out. Correct response of the neighbor after checking on the kid to see if ok was to offer to let him come in her place to watch TV..offer the use of the bathroom..offer or just bring out some cookies and milk..just offer the kid to come over to her place if he got tired of playing to wait for the parents.. Surprised the Judge didn't just throw the case out of court..have a private talk with the head of the police ...and to force the parents to go for counciling...kids to Camp, while nice possible Parents can't afford and now parents have a criminal record I believe plus cost if attorney..{not cheap for anything..}...whole thing to me is unbelievable...

OK, but if it's every single day? She's not the unpaid babysitter.

Be careful with that cookies and milk thing - lactose and gluten are the biggest evils of 20-teens. You could get locked up for offering them cocaine, trans fat, wheat based products or porn.

Wait for the 16yo picked up by CPS for being with boy/girl friend while the parents aren't home: From the article "The authorities claim he had no access to water or shelter. We have an open shed in the back yard and 2 working sinks and 2 hoses. They said he had no food. He ate his snacks already. He had no bathroom, but the responding officer found our yard good enough to relieve himself in while our son sat in a police car alone. In his own yard, in a state, Florida, that has no minimum age for children to be alone" 16 is a minor, no?
I personally think that most of these totally of the wall CPS related stories are caused by the "crusader" types who think that 100% safety can exsist if we just try hard enough or those who have an axe to grind with the parents and know how to do so.

According to the article I wrote the parents got tied up were on the way home it was not a everyday thing..actually, with out going back and reading..I got the impression that the kid had misplaced his key..left it in the house or such...most kids of that age have their own key to the house if parents are working...key is under a rock as a spare or such is not uncommon...{ I hace a spare in a plastic container in my lock up tha I can get to and I live in a condo now ...have left key in house a few times ..once door blew shut..saved me..have even told trusted friends / neighbors..if worried about me befiore break door down get key..no problem letting them know about it..}

I'm confused. 11 year old outside playing while parents getting home from work. Totally normal. Why conselling? Why CPS? What's wrong with society that it's viewed as abnormal for kids to play outside?
Florida's weird

What's wrong with society that it's viewed as abnormal for kids to play outside? Florida's weird It's the "helicopter parenting" mindset that seems more pervasive than ever. And some people (such the neighbor in this story) are taking it upon themselves to police their neighbors and their children.
The boy was shooting hoops outside of his own home after school, for Pete's sake - it's not like he was in distress or aimlessly wandering the neighborhood - or bothering people/causing trouble - it was a kid having some FUN!!
