What a freaking zoo! It certainly appears something other than Chicago's "tough gun laws" needs to be considered because they sure as hell aren't working.

Chicago has hit the somber milestone even sooner than the violent year of 2012, when the city saw 500 homicides for the first time since 2008. Shootings that year were up 11 percent. The city reached the 1,000 mark on June 6 in 2012. In 2013 it was on June 26 and last year it was on June 15.
This year, Chicago passed the mark sometime late Thursday into early Friday morning, according to data collected and analyzed by the Chicago Tribune.
Through Monday morning, about 1,050 people had been shot in the city since the year began, according to the Tribune's data. Through June 8 last year there were 924 people shot. In 2013 the number was 820 through June 8, and in 2012 it was 981.

Pretty soon they'll kill each other off and what's left is hopefully civilized.

Obviously they need more guns. That's always the answer from you anti-gunners, just take away guns and the bad guys won't have one. I know, I know you have some guns and aren't anti-gun.

Honestly it depends what problem you are solving for. Norway or wherever it was, has much less gun violence then the US until there was that crazed man who shot 60 to 70 people. Gun laws do work. How much they work is up to debate. No laws for guns isn't going to stop shootings in Chicago or elsewhere to zero or very little, think the Wild Wild West, nor are we going to become a very tight gun control country like several found in Europe with far fewer shootings.
People can count murders in Chicago until they are blue in the face, but you aren't proving what you think you are. FWIW. Someone who is against reactionary tightening and loosening of gun laws. There are way more options than just pro-gun or anti-gun.

I have a LOT of guns and am only anti-gun stupidity. If that makes me an 'anti-gunner' in your mind you are probably in good company with the NRA folks and worse ilk like the GOA group that think anyone that doesn't agree with them are 'gun grabbers'.
BWT I thought concealed carry was going to fix this and drop the gun crime -rofl-Armed and polite society and all......

If killing each other worked, Palestine and Israel would be gone. And many African nations, parts of the US, etc. For all the counting of the shootings in Chicago, no journalist has gotten off their tuckus and written about who, why, and where.
That's the story. That's what we need to know if we want to lessen the violence. Is it just poor blacks wiping out other poor blacks for reasons we can't understand or are unwilling to fix? Or is it more complex than that? Probably in the worst neighborhoods in the US, over 50% of the people there don't die of gunshot wounds. What is the goal various political posters are striving for? Fewer deaths? Just fewer shooting deaths? Shooters and shooting victims being offered good jobs and moving out of really deadly neighborhoods?

The day we see concealed carry, spontaneously make towns and states erupt into peace and harmony ,is probably the day unicorns show up look for nice virgins to hang out with.

i live just outside Chicago. Born & bred here. Raised my kids here and they are raising their's slightly further outside the city.
What scares me is how many of these shooting seem to be of the 'just for the fun of it' type things. people shot driving on the highways. People shot outsie their homes or in parks in drivebys. People shot in neighborhoods that NEVER saw this type activity.
this stuff used to be predominantly gang fights over turf and/or 'disrespect.' Now it is happening everywhere in the metro area for any reason.
Also, Chicago does have VERY strong anti-gun laws BUT neighboring towns, downstate and neighboring states do NOT have such laws. Suspect it is quite easy to buy outside thew city and bring in.

Exactly! No point in having strong anti-gun laws unless you cordon off the city and have border guards surrounding it, checking all who go in and out for weapons. Canada has strict gun laws, but it's across the board, not just in isolated pockets. Maybe that's why Montreal, with 4 million souls, has about 30 homicides a year, while it looks like Chicago will have about 2,000.

Chicago has more than 30 homicides per year that aren't firearm related. heyjackass.com/category/2014-chicago-crime-murder-stats/

Rotten schools, broken families, economic dead zones, few jobs, leaders who are AWOL. loss of hope...There are a few things beside "gun control" that aren't working

Substituting welfare in place of fathers or working parents isn't a smart plan either. If you're busy working to feed yourself and keep a roof over your head, you don't have as much time to loiter and cause trouble I don't believe in supporting people so they don't "rob us."

Are "shootings" the same as "crimes"? Just curious.

Last time I went to Chicago, there were so many policemen on every corner and in between that I felt scared just to be there. Thanks but no thanks.

As has been stated many times, gun laws only apply to law biding citizens willing to follow them. Criminals, by their very definition, don't give give a crap about gun laws.

It's a personal preference of mine that neighboring countries have their citizens mostly disarmed. Carry on.
