I'm not a fan of most lip colors. I think most women would be just fine using nothing more than a tinted lip gloss.
*my opinion may be influenced by the fact that I have tried COUNTLESS lip colors and all of them look a hot mess on me, lol
I tried and tried to find a "nude" lip color that looks good on me. I've pretty much given up. Rich, darker colors look the best on me, so that's what I wear whether it's in "style" or not. I've tried to get away from those kinds of shades, but lighter colors just look terrible on me. I don't get it, because I've seen ladies with darker skin than mine wear lighter colors. It must have something to do with undertones. I am a woman of no color (so white) so I have no business making any suggestions at all, but Nyx Lip Lingerie is a line of nudes that are supposed to be pretty much universally flattering. I have three shades myself, but I have also watched lip swatch videos with women of color trying all the shades and they look fantastic. I tend to wear mauves and brick red shades. Trying to find some berries that fit me.

I've seen Mented and looked at their colors. And promptly forgot about them lol. Thanks for reminding me about them. Fenty made quite a buzz when it was released, but I thought the big selection of shades was the foundation. I'm not sure. Sephora was actually where the lady realized I had more than just red undertones going on. My daughter enjoyed my search for a nude lip color. She's a lot lighter to me and doesn't like much color on her lips, so she was the happy recipient of all the "nudes" that didn't work for me. Did y'all not see the post where I said I have at least 20 lipsticks? I wasn't kidding or exaggerating. That doesn't include the ones I've given my daughter. I probably shouldn't even be having this conversation if it's going to tempt me to buy more.

Idk, I gave up because it just seems like my face really needs some color. Since it takes forever to do a halfway decent job putting on eyeshadow (honestly, I don't know what the hell I'm doing despite having watched countless videos and practicing quite a bit), I very rarely wear it, so I put the color on my lips. One thing I like about Mac's website is when you click on many of their lipsticks, they have pictures of different models with different shades of skin color wearing that color.

Mented is the brand I've seen. The colors look really pretty but I know they'd look totally different on me as I am not in any way a WOC. I mean, "pale pale and kind of sallowy pale" is *a* color, but that's not what they mean. Doesn't Rhianna have a make up line as well with way more color choices? I've seen it when my child has dragged me to places like Ulta. ETA: I think it's called Fenty. That's her last name, so probably so.

I also love NYX. I have several different formulas from them and they're all great. And they're cheap. Re: having 20 lipsticks, I also have that many, if not more. And most are some variation on mauve/rosewood. Oops!

You don't wear lipstick at all? Do you wear any makeup? Or you just rock your natural beauty?

Welp, searching for makeup for WOC and posting about it has confused my algorithms but good. I’ve seen like a 400% increase in ads targeted at or featuring POC in the last 48 hrs! On the one hand, awesome, there’s cool stuff. On the other hand, something bugs me about it, especially some of the non-ad content I don’t think i would typically see.

I wear a light foundation to even out my red blotchiness. I wear brown mascara and occasionally brown eyeliner to work because my eyelashes are blond. I wear chapstick but not lipstick. It's stuck in my head that from my incredibly bubble wrapped, conservative childhood that I'm not allowed to wear lipstick.

You make your own rules as long as you aren't hurting anyone love. Some of the messages we got when we were young did nothing good for us and we need to "unlearn" some of it. It's fine if you just prefer not to wear lipstick. But if you want to explore, be bold! Be daring! You probably should start with a nice neutral though lol. I promise I'm not knocking you if not wearing lipstick is really your preference, just encouraging you to try new things IF you are interested in doing so.

Rocking the no makeup look is easier when you don’t look like a blank slate. I do use an eyelash curler.

She always wore a dress because pants weren’t ladylike. She wore lipstick!! The hussy.

I use Merle Norman, the only one that looks good on me is gold plated bronze. I thought they had quit making it so bought up quite a few. I have tried various brands and colors. And some makes my lips dry or kind of cakes, none stays on for very long, its the only brand I can use. Same with makeup base, I've tried a lot and it splotches. Hope they continue this brand.

Someone talk me out of these. Or conversely, tell me if Bobs tend to run large or small because they don't have my half size in stock.

Hahaha ok. I will refrain. Apparently I'm one of those people whose fashion sense was suspended in time. I don't know how to dress like a grownup.
