So compared to some folks I know, I think I'm mostly laid back. Ok, somewhat laid back. Well...maybe not . DH and I were discussing "things" last night and he pointed out a few of my *ahem* behaviors that I consider quite normal. 1. When I buy new earrings I have to replace the cheap backings with a more sturdy, comfortable set. I purchase packets of earring backings just for this purpose. Of course I have to take this a step further - if I run out of the better backings I can't swap out from another pair, I just wait to wear the new earrings until I get more of the better backings. 2. I have to update my financial tracking software daily. 3. Watches and rings are removed when I'm working in the kitchen, doesn't matter which kitchen, they come off. Even if I'm just emptying sinks or wiping down counters. 4. The fringes on rugs must alway be laid out straight. 5. A day has not yet begun until I've had some coffee. If I don't want coffee call an ambulance. 6. There must be milk in the house. If we are out of milk I'm running to the grocery store. 7. Gas tanks shall not be allowed to go below 1/4 full (road trips being the only exception). Now I don't see anything wrong with any of the above. Anyone else have behaviors that they think are normal but may be considered OCD?

Sure you have some quirks, but you seem well organized to me.
I always buy two pairs of shoes that are identical. For me it is a safety net. One pair goes, the other is there sparkling and new...and I bought them because I liked them.

The remote control to the television has to sit a certain distance from my cup of coffee. I move it around several times until I am satisfied. I catch myself doing it and I say, "OCD".

I can't sort the silverware in the drawer. It's not just that I dont. If someone does it, I feel edgy until I mess it up again...

It is having to space the two several times until I am satisfied that says OCD to me. But that is the only OCD type thing I do.

I have a ranking system for coffee cups A squad: The best cups in the house, big enough to hold a good amount of coffee comfortable grip, and are in one of 2 sets, plus a few individual ones *I'll get to those later B squad: Cups that were purchased to replace my dwindling number of A squad cups. I seem to only buy in quantities of 4, regardless of the fact I buy them at Pier 1 so can by individually. I don't mind these cups, but they haven't made the grade to A squad for whatever reason C Squad: Generally these are the shorter cups I have picked up over the years, they graduated from D squad because they fit in my Kuerig that I use occasionally. D Squad: I hate these cups... all of them irrationally piss me off, but I keep them around for some reason Individual A squad cups: I have one that my mom gave me that is older than I am. This is the granddaddy of them all. This one is a 'Weekend' A squad cup, not to be used on a boring weekday when I can't sit around and do nothing while drinking coffee. Before I was married my cups where stored in the cupboard according to rank... Oddly enough MrSroo, hasn't quite figured out the ranking system, so now they are loaded in the cupboard randomly. It's one of those things that I notice every time I reach for a cup, but for the sake of my marriage I'm learning to live with. MrSroo, marvels at my 'quirks' some days. Other days he just points and laughs... Well except for the time I woke him up at 3am because the covers weren't right in bed and I had to fix them... which meant he had to get up and out of bed too. Oddly enough, he's never balked at me getting everything right with the covers before we get into bed OMG you must be my long lost twin!!! I've mentioned this before. I have several hand made oversized ceramic coffee mugs (I actually think they're supposed to be beer steins). I take one of these with me when car shopping. If I can't fit my coffe mug in somewhere the care isn't happening.

I only want my coffee from certain cups. They have to have the right mouth feel. DH, DS and I will only use the large forks from the set we got from MIL. DD will only use the salad fork from that set. The full set in the same pattern-manufactured 50 years later-is a cheap imitation and we make guests use it. We will all wash a fork for dinner rather than use the "wrong fork." Again it's mouth feel. I have a different, separate fork that I eat my lunch with at work. Everyone knows not to use my fork. I'd be less upset if you used my toothbrush. Wiping my kitchen counter is a five step process. Soap and green scrubbie. Scrape bubbles into sink with plastic bowl scraper reserved for that purpose. Rinse with clean water. Scrape again. Dry with a towel. Any deviation means you didn't clean the counter. And believe me, I know when you skipped a step. So , no. I don't have any OCD tendencies.

I don't let my car get below 1/4 tank of gas either. I've always been afraid that if I do, I'll be on E at the worst possible time.
I can't sleep in a bed if the covers aren't neat. The sheets must be at least tucked at the foot of the bed and the covers not all jumbled up. I will get out of bed in the middle of the night and straighten the covers if necessary. I had a friend that hated my bed. He said he felt trapped because the bottom of my sheets would be tucked so tight. He'd pull them loose, I'd get up and fix them. When we went out of town together, we always got double beds lol.
I don't think I could live in an open concept house if the sofa was in the middle of the room, especially in a large open space. Well, I could live there, but I'd never lounge on the floating furniture. My back needs to be against a wall, preferably near a corner facing the doorway. Even when I go to restaurants and other places, I choose a seat where I'm facing the entrance. I'm not sure why I have to do things like that.
I had a hatchback car in high school. I never want another. I don't like all that open space behind me. I'm not sure I'd even want a large SUV. Same issue.
I have a lot of quirks.

Not me. I'm as oral as oral can be. I'll adapt to just about anything. Mother, however, was definitely anal retentive. I had to stop and think to be sure I'd done everything she'd find necessary to enjoy whatever was being provided. I'd find myself chuckling over the things I almost overlooked.

I'm very OCD - however, I live in a household with 5 others who are not. I've given up trying to be neat and organized at home - and it's stressed me out for the last 10+ years. Instead, I focus on trying to make work make sense rather than home. I have 4 more years before the youngest graduates high school. At some point after that, then I'm hoping my home can become my organization mecca once again......

I think you need to set your hubby straight on a few points3. Watches and rings are removed when I'm working in the kitchen, doesn't matter which kitchen, they come off. Even if I'm just emptying sinks or wiping down counters. Practical Cleanliness - OCD not.a.factor4. The fringes on rugs must alway be laid out straight. Common OCD ~ I had to get rid of my fringe rugs because with a cat this quickly turns to borderline insanity!5. A day has not yet begun until I've had some coffee. If I don't want coffee call an ambulance. Addiction - OCD not.a.factor The ambulance is for whoever gets in the way of the coffee pot, right?6. There must be milk in the house. If we are out of milk I'm running to the grocery store. Normal? I have half and half & back up milk (UHT boxes and then powdered for absolute dire emergencies). Tell me this is normal 7. Gas tanks shall not be allowed to go below 1/4 full (road trips being the only exception). Practical & money saving. Once you blow one fuel pump you know why. My ex was notorious for running cars out of gas. I considered this a significant character flaw & wish I had known it before we got married.

Some things that I would do if it wasn't more trouble than it's worth:
Pantry items would all have their labels facing front, largest items in the back, smaller in front. (this has only happened once - about 2 hours after moving in....13 years ago)
NOTHING would be on the shelves in the living room, dining room or hallway, except what is actually SUPPOSED to be there (instead, all flat spaces are considered open-season for clutter-catchers)
The shed would actually have places for everything and everything in it's place - tools outlined on the peg boards and floor (this is supposed to be DH's area - but he leaves it just as cluttered as the kids).

I will actually list out my have to have quirks tomorrow when I boot up the laptop, but seriously.....living alone for the last 8 years probably wasn't the best thing for me. that my roommate now is a bit OCD himself is definitely helping me ease back into sharing space with others. sent from my electronic distraction

I like things done a certain way/order. I asked my psychiatrist once, if I had OCD. He laughed and told me absolutely not.
Pantry items would all have their labels facing front, largest items in the back, smaller in front. Yep, and all the vegetables are lined up in one area, soups in another etc.
I can tell you where in my junk drawer/cupboard/toolbox, etc, to look for a particular item.
I don't go crazy over it though. It's just the way I prefer it.

Especially since my pantry has been known to find pasta on three different shelves, soups mixed with fruit and popcorn packages buried on the floor behind the dog food.

My toilet paper sits on the back of the toilet. And I hate putting gas in a vehicle before the warning goes off...
This has me thinking, as all my 'desire to have things a certain way' are the exact opposite of what you'd apparently expect.
Im often told that I'm 'so organized'... And I can run things and organize things and design multiple checklists to make sure everyone gets everything gets done on time, etc... But that isn't because I'm natualy that way. Its because I'm naturally nonlinear and scattered. So I do those things to combat my natural tendencies....
so... I think my 'opposite' kind of this is the way it should be things, are like my last hold on the chaos my nature actually craves...
Does that make sense?

The kitchen floor in a townhouse that I owned was in bad shape. I didn't want to replace it so I found an artsy lady who agreed to paint it for me. I told her I wanted a big area rug painted in the middle that looked like a flower garden with spring flowers and all that kinda stuff. I had one request that she thought was a tad strange though. I wanted one end of the "rug" kicked up and the fringe didn't have to be perfect. I told her that a "real" rug would probably be like that in my house anyway. Ok, back to the regularly scheduled subject

Can I say I'm just set in my ways from living alone so long? Wait, that may sound more pathetic than being OCD. I also don't let my car's gas tank get below a quarter tank. The closest hospital is in the next largest city over and there were several times I had to go to my parents house to run them into the hospital in their vehicle and we'd have to stop for gas along the way because they always ran on empty. If I find a pair of shoes I really like I'll buy 3 or 4 pairs. I don't wear high heels and have a really high arches, so it's ridiculously hard to find a comfortable pair of modest low-heeled dress shoes that provide good support and don't look like crap because they're too plain or too blinged out. All of the screw heads on all of my outlets have to be perfectly vertical. I never noticed it before I became a homeowner and started painting my house, but now it drives me nuts to see them going all different directions. I've even surreptitiously aligned the screw heads in a few rooms of my friends houses. They didn't notice until I fessed up. They also started messing up the screw heads in my house to see if I'd notice. We're all equally weird, so there's a good reason why we found each other. My fridge is organized in a specific way and I always put things back in the same place. It drives me nuts when company comes and don't understand my system. I chalk that one up to having a french door fridge. If things are put away correctly I only have to open one side, but if things are put in wherever they fit I have to open both sides to find what I'm looking for.

Is the fact that I can't stand to see things like pictures hanging in 2,4's considered OCD? I feel more comfortable with 3,5's etc. I am an asymmetric person to the point of being OCD maybe ? I've wanted to tell people if they added just one more item to a picture grouping, etc that it would be more interesting - but I refrain
