I know ultimately I'm going to have to get doctors out here, but I have just made appointments with my optometrist and my GYN in KY.
We're going to be in IN for a long weekend in July and I am planning on making a run down to Lexington for those 2 appointments. My optometrist is incredible at fitting hard gas permeable lenses and I have yet to find someone that is as competent out here. The guy I saw last year charged me for a contact fitting when he never even saw my lenses in my eye or checked my prescription! I tried to argue it, but still wound up paying the fitting fee and am still wearing my lenses from 3 years ago.
GYN, I just have not been able to find anyone locally. I've gotten a couple references, but they're not accepting new patients.
I HATE looking for new doctors!

If you are going to be there and know that you are going to be well taken care of there, I would totally go with them.
Too bad you're not in KC. I love my doctor and would refer you there.

I've kept some of my professionals I guess you could call them. I kept the eye doctor and hairdresser in my college town because I liked them. It's about halfway between where I work and my hometown. Eye doctor is probably getting dumped because every other year he's gone from that location. I still have friends I visit there so I just schedule appointments around that.
I've been going to the same dentist since I was 8. He's cut back to three days a week and I don't care for his partner. Doctors I didn't have anyone I loved so I switched all those. I understand though especially for an ob/gyn.

Oh, and mich, I'd totally do what you're doing. We moved to Texas for 3 years, and ended up keeping our optometrist and dentist in KC and would see them when we were back in the area. Now that we're back, it made it easy to not find new ones for those two services.

My brother finally switched all his doctors/dentists/optometrists to CO from PA. He hasn't lived in PA since 2004. He'd come home every so often from grad school or his post doc and have appointments with all of them.

LOL, I would visit my dentist and ortho in AZ when I'd make the home trip from Germany.
I still want to keep my ortho even though we've been back in CA for almost three years. He's one of those mad scientist guys and I hate to change.
One good thing about being forced off the company plan was that we're back to Kaiser in Nor Cal which is amazingly good. I was so bummed that my primary moved to Portland, OR (still with Kaiser). I seriously thought about following her and visiting MIL more often. How's that for insanity!

I'm kind of meh about the primary care doctor I've found, but I needed someone to refill my BP meds and he'll do. I've started using TD's dentist and he's ok but I have a couple crowns that will need to be replaced and I think I'll find a prosthedontist for that. My orthopod is in Seattle, and I will continue to see him (I need to schedule an appointment with him too).
When I left KY, I scheduled appointments with everyone and was able to get a year refill on all my meds. I was forced to see a doctor here for BP, and my gyn refilled my meds into the second year. I wonder if I call if he'll refill them again for me. I'm still getting hot flashes from hell, as I am trying to make my last pack of HRT last by taking it every other day. That's not sufficient.
Funny thing though, I won't touch the orthopods in KY with a 30' pole (which is the reason why I went to Seattle for surgery in the first place). The hospital has an abysmal record for post op infections.

I'm in Lenexa, so I'll probably look for someone closer, but if I don't find anyone I like, I'll PM you for your NKC rec.

I'll send you his info to check him out. I went to him before I moved to NKC and he was super cool. When I moved back to the Dotte, I just kept going to the one I have now not wanting to drive to western Shawnee to see him. I just looked him up and found the Lenexa address.

I've had all my doctors a very long time. My GYN told me she's retiring in three years...that was a slip of the tongue while complaining about her new computer system...but, but, you've only been my doctor 25 years...what will I do now? Anytime I've tried to change doctors it's been awful. I remember going to the health clinic in college because I had this terrible pain, I went repeatedly, they probably drew straws when my name was on the books. Finally caught the train home to see my own doctor, she examined me for all of 3 minutes said I was allergic to their toilet paper, keep my own in my purse. Seriously? I had to ride Amtrak to hear that? Made it worse I was at a college that had a medical school--that is known as a medical school. Later, I had repeated visits for the blahs and a weird looking rash. It was declared the freshman blues and they couldn't see a rash. When I was in high school I worked at a law firm, one of the lawyers called on my behalf and demanded I be sent to a specialist. Scarlet Fever, the most progressed case the doctor had even seen. My eye doctor, loved him. Got involved with a nurse, had a baby, got married. It really impacted his business. Wife called all the time, office staff complained, he always looked stressed. He's like a whole 'nother person and I'm always surprised to hear they are still together. Oh, there was the time I tried a new gyn and she sent a reminder postcard about my yearly exam. Why can't my doctors just stop aging...like me! Already starting the process of moving my son from children's to adult specialists. Man.

How do you tag people? I would have tagged Sam in my last post. Use this button to tag people. Just put their username in and there's the tag. You can also put your cursor on their profile in the thread over their name and click ALT and the tag shows up that way as well. Sam_2.0

To tag people, you write @ in front on their user name. Many people have their display name as their user name, but not everyone. Sam_2.0 does though. In see their user name, you can hover your mouse over their display name or click on their name to see their user name. For the OP - My FIL still travels 3 hours one-way to see his eye doctor and now the eye doctor's daughter every 6 months. FWIW, he does credit the eye doctor with saving his sight 20 years ago when something happened to his retina. (I forgot the exact story. ) For all their other doctor appointments, they do stay in their general area.
