Do you love your bum enough that you'll take up the mantle of raising pledges for the 2015 "Bum Run", raising awareness for colorectal cancer? Yes, this is a real event. It's a run. For your bum. Oh look. Their logo is a giant pratt. Literally. He sure is happy, running for the "Bum Run". Presumably he represents your cancer-free bum and not you running. I saw this on the subway today and wondered if it was humanly possible to devise a more awkward marketing campaign. I suppose they could've called it "The 2015 Gallop for Anal Polyps" and had a giant hemorrhoid as a mascot. That would win by a nose. There's always 2016. Can anyone here beat this for "fundamentally good cause beleaguered by incredibly awkward marketing"? I doubt it.

As someone who lost both parents well before their time to colon cancer, I am a firm believer that whatever gets people thinking about getting a colonoscopy and finding a cure for colon cancer is a good thing. But, I am also wise enough to know that not everyone will share my belief.

Here, there's an annual run called "The Underwear Affair", to bring funding/awareness to below-the-belt Cancers.
People run walk, compete in challenges, and yes, participate in their underwear - or a near version of underwear - depending on your modesty level.
It doesn't matter to me what they call these runs, or how "cutsie" the logo is, since it's a cause worth fighting (and running) for and making it fun for the participants who run for pledges, usually also brings out far more participants.
Last year, our local Cancer Foundation raised over $500,000 from the one day event.

Both my brother and myself are colon cancer survivors. He is 15 years cancer free, while I am 10 years cancer free. Whatever it takes for people to get checked I really don't care, just get checked.
I've lost two of my beloved sisters to cancer, and I wouldn't wish this on even my worst enemy.

I kinda like the little running bum. He's cute. Heck, if it gets folks out there supporting the cause, I'm not particular what logo they use. Then again, I'm pretty easily pleased.

According to the tracking gauge in the link from the OP, the event has already raised over $52,000 of their projected goal of $150,000.
Since the event isn't taking place until next Sunday (the 26th), I think that's a good indication that they will most likely surpass that goal from pledges that haven't even been accounted for yet.

Nooo!! Your indifference to awkward marketing will be the death of us all. Do you not see? We'll soon be overrun by cutesie running bum characters. People will proudly declare "I'm Bumsketeer!" as they run by wearing rump-shaped beanies. Yes, we'll have raised cancer awareness, but at what cost? At what terrible cost?

Personally I LIKE cutsie bums. The second thing I noticed about DH was his bum. The world would be a much less happy place without cute bums.

Thank you Virgil for enlightening me. I've seen the word prat before in books, used mostly as an insult, and never figured out what it meant. Now I know! So your anti-awkward marketing campaign had an effect, if not the intended one. BTW I think the running bum is kinda cute, and I think my kids would crack up. They love potty humor.

Unintended pun?
ETA: Maybe they should call the run "The Bum Rush".

I like it. Whatever gets attention for a disease that has a very high treatment/cure rate, when discovered early. I've already had two polyps removed, courtesy of a screening.

Don't they have to shove a scope up your rear? Or has technology progressed beyond that point now? Yes, there is a scope. You are given anesthesia beforehand and sleep right through it. You do have to "empty out" the day before, of course. No solid food, no green or red liquids. The "clean-out" process is more humane now. There is a dose of milk of magnesia, then the pills or powders to use, rather than that loathsome Liquid Plumbr-type stuff they used to provide. The powder can be mixed with Gatorade, to make it taste decent. If a polyp is found, it's removed and the location is tagged so the doctor can check it again. And you do have to be checked one year later. No five-year follow-up if a polyp is found. It's annual until your innards are clean.

Either that or they will learn to stay in school, study hard, get a good education and a good job, in order not to give new meaning to the phrase "acting like a bum."
