There are so many things wrong here. www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/03/eric-harris-shot-tulsa_n_7002078.html More is not said than said. Shot by a 73 year old deputy, with a gun thinking it was a stun gun, Even though it is not stated in the report, Apparently the suspect is shot in the back while on the ground being hand cuffed, was unarmed and of course was black. I am waiting for the spin on this one.

I think there won't be much spin. The story will just die. No one cares about the black guy but his family, and who are they? Its just another cop killing someone for no good reason, no story there.

1. Special deputies shouldn't be armed 2. 73 is too old for that responsibility

I also don't think that police officers/sheriffs should be elected by the public.
I live in Canada, and in a large metropolis, but police officers here go through special training, and work their way up the ranks - some going into detective work others in special forces (SWAT), etc. Even the Chief of Police gets appointed to the position (usually based on service) - not elected.

Well this should get OldCoyote going: South Carolina police officer charged with murder after shooting man during traffic stopA white police officer in North Charleston, S.C., was charged with murder Tuesday after shooting and killing a black man following a routine traffic stop over the weekend. The decision to charge the officer, Michael Thomas Slager, came after graphic video footage emerged depicting Slager firing a volley of bullets into the back of Walter Scott, who was running away. Officers rarely face criminal charges after shooting people, a fact that has played into nationwide protests over the past year over how the police use deadly force. Yet this case took a swift, unusual turn after a video shot by a bystander provided authorities with a decisive narrative that differed from Slager’s account. “It wasn’t just based on the officers’ word anymore,” said Chris Stewart, an attorney for Scott’s family. “People were believing this story.” Authorities on Tuesday also pointed to the video as a turning point in this case and apologized to the family for the shooting. “When you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” North Charleston Mayor R. Keith Summey said at a news conference. “If you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield…you have to live with that decision.” South Carolina police officer charged with murder after shooting man during traffic stop

More footage shows the officer apparently planting evidence- his lawyer bailed.
This guy is going to pay heavily- or not- depends on the prosecutor and jury doesn't it
Without the video this would be just another justified police killing of an unarmed person swept under the rug.
Only in America where a burned out tail lamp ends up with an execution.
**** From what I have read- have not verified this- but this is the same department where the cop at the gas station asked for a man's license and insurance and shot him when he moved too fast to get it out of the car. Also on video.

www.cnn.com/2014/09/25/justice/south-carolina-trooper-shooting/
Authorities released dash-camera video Wednesday showing what they say is Sean Groubert, a decorated South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, shooting Levar Jones, who was unarmed, in the parking lot of a gas station just outside Columbia on September 4.
Jones, 35, survived the shooting. But Groubert, who has since been fired for the incident, has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, a felony that could get him up to 20 years in prison if convicted, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Wednesday.
In this year's incident, police said Groubert, 31, stopped Jones in the parking lot of a Circle K station in daylight, for what police say was an alleged seat belt violation, around 5 p.m.

And that's why the LAPD is now using the Canadian model. Hopefully, it will catch on.

He has been charged with manslaughter- doubt any jail though.
More disturbing is that from the little I read it appears this is one of those folks that buy their badge- one of the counties I used to live in would issue badges to 'volunteer' deputies because they donated a lot of money, were pals of the sheriff, etc. They got paid $1 a year with little training.
