Woman says she was put in mental hospital for saying Obama follows her on Twitter. She was kind of right.

Some would say Jesus speaks to all of us if we choose to listen.  However, I don't think they have twitter up there.  If there is an "up there".  Can't prove it one way or the other.

I don't care one way or another if she was rightfully committed. Putting "must acknowledge that Obama doesn't follow her on Twitter" as a condition of discharge from confinement is Orwellian dystopia at its worst.

Yep. People aren't usually committed because of a Twitter account. There's more to this story, but due to confidentiality, the hospital isn't allowed to say.

I do not believe the entire discharge paper has one condition.  I suspect the discharge paperwork says a lot of stuff, and this one thing is being singled out because it is funny, and easy.

My problem is that regardless of how deserving she was of being committed in the first place, and regardless of how many other conditions appear on her release form, there are no justifiable conditions for which "must state that Obama is not following her on Twitter" should appear on such a form.

The exact statement is:

The “master treatment plan” says that she must “state that Obama is not following her on Twitter” in order to be released.

If this is true, it's an abuse of authority regardless of the hospital's side of the story. It's thought policing at its worst.

Maybe she made up wild tales to go along with it, and they wanted her to go all the way back to the root of the story.  I agree that it is weird.  I'm guessing whoever wrote that doesn't understand Twitter and everyone follows everyone, and that doesn't indicate a personal relationship whatsoever. They want her to admit that she has no personal relationship to the president.

I agree with Virgil. Whoever wrote that condition either didn't understand what was going

on or likely did not care. While the person was mistaken about it actually being Obama, it

doesn't make sense to be on a treatment plan unless you actually had access to her accounts

and prove she was wrong ... and that it was a really harmful thing to believe.
