I've not gotten any phone calls from Microsoft Windows in a long time. I always wondered if my phone number wound up on some sort of 'loony' list. Alas, no.
Me: Hello MSN: This is MS, calling about a computer error we are receiving on our servers <heavy Indian accent> Me: Really, how is this so? MSN: Our servers record all Windows installed <mental snort> and we have been getting errors from your computer. Me: Which computer? We have 5. MSN: The one you use most frequently. <LOL.....we have a desktop and 4 laptops and it depends on who is on it and what's being done as to which one is used most frequently> Me: This is impossible. MSN: Your computer <still singular> is sending us errors. Me: Aren't you ashamed of yourself? MSN: Why? For telling you that your computer is having problems? Me: Nope, for trying to run a scam. You are going to try to do one of 2 things. Either get a credit card number out of me to try to 'fix' my computer remotely, or get control of my computer and read information off of it. I'm not stupid, your scams are well known. MSN: We only want to help you fix your computer. Me: <snort - audible this time> Yeah right. Me: Does your mother know you are a thief? Because that is essentially what you are. You are calling people, particularly elderly who are not as understanding and trying to get money off of them. That makes you a thief by illegal means. If your mother knew, I'm sure that she never thought she raised a thief, and I imagine she'd be horribly ashamed of you.

I am so easily amused.......

I hang up immediately. They called 3X each morning for 3 days in a row when DH was home sick in January. He kept messing with them, pretending not to understand, and then getting very flustered because (he told them) he couldn't find the MS keys on his Mac. They finally stopped calling.

Mich - that is not only LOL funny but given the culture, extremely poignant. Who knows, maybe he will think about what you said, turn his life completely around, and become a productive member of the world ... Nah, probably not but it's a nice thought.

Maybe the key to them not calling you back is to speak in unintelligible gibberish when they begin talking to you. They won't understand what language you are speaking.

So you're saying learning to speak Klingon, or Tolkien Elvish might be useful after all? Think I can learn Klingon from the BBT before the next phone call?

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

I don't get these calls, either, since I went to a cell phone instead of my land line. The land line is the number I use if I buy something online. It's still hooked up but it's turned off.

My land line is turned on, but I got everything going to my answering machine. The ringer is turned off on both the phone and the answering machine, a light blinks if there's a new message.

The last time they called me, I was irritated, but nice, in the beginning. About 2 sentences in, I started saying things like "why are you lying to me?"! They said "what?" I went on about how I knew they were not who they said, and that they were lying! They hung up and haven't called back. Apparently they don't like talking to people that are willing to confront them. Sorry Mich, that might be your last call from them.

Sorry Mich, that might be your last call from them. There will probably be other scams calling her where she can use it. I currently have 117 different phone numbers on Call Block. All of them were one scam or another or the same scammer using a different phone number trying to get me to pick up the phone.

I agree, she'll have other times to use it. For sure. It was pretty creative!

It does not include the number of times they called from that number which usually averages out about 4 times per number. Fortunately the phone does not ring after the first time they call and after I have blocked it. My TV tells me a call is coming in but the phone does not ring. I then just delete the latest call from the caller from my phone.

Last time we got one of those calls C also called them a thief/mentioned what they were doing was illegal, the person on the phone threatened to kill C. Guess he wasn't that concerned about stealing...

I actually got pretty much the same phone call, and it went pretty much the same way except I just hung up after going back and forth a few times when they couldn't tell me which computer was sending errors.
It was actually kind of amusing. Since I was at work, I didn't know if they were talking about my work or home computers.
Like you, I figured they were trying to get money/personal information or try to upload some type of malware on my computer.
