(Hot damn!) No, seriously. It sucks to work in an older building (actually a historic landmark). I'm wearing a short sleeve summer weight suit right now and it's 80 degrees in my office (I borrowed a thermometer from a co-worker). The back of my neck is soaked and I have sweat running down the side of my face. I have a floor stand fan running as fast as it can without blowing papers all over my office. All this AND I get to meet with the IRS today. Yea, I'll be a real hot mess by then. Sigh - It's only 10am too. Yes, I've put the call into building management - I swear they must cringe when they see my extension pop up. I know it's next to impossible to really regulate the heating/cooling well and quickly in an old building, but still people, come on! I’m too hot (hot damn) Called a police and a fireman I’m too hot (hot damn) Make a dragon wanna retire man I’m too hot (hot damn) Say my name you know who I am I’m too hot (hot damn) Am I bad 'bout that money Break it down Source: www.directlyrics.com/mark-ronson-uptown-funk-lyrics.html

If your building is packed with modern computer and electronic devices, the age of the building is irrevelant if the airconditioning isn't working. Shut off the air conditioner in this building and the electronics will keep it a toasty 89 degrees year round.

Yeah, first of all I thought you were posting some awesome pictures of yourself! Disappointed.
Secondly, LOVE that Bruno Mars song!
Thirdly, yes, I work in a historic building as well and summers are quite miserable. It's kind of shocking how much I've adapted, however. After being in the heat all day, then going to the gym to workout, when I get home it's WAY too cold! Granted, after we added on to our house we added a central air system that was a bit too large for the square footage (better than spending money on one too small though) and DH likes to keep the house very cool, but if I"m wearing shorts I put a towel or blanket down before sitting on the leather furniture! Brrrr....

My office gets hot every afternoon as the sun creeps around the building. I have a small fan but it doesn't work all that well. Add in hot flashes and well........I feel like a volcano about to erupt my guts all over my desk.

Too bad The Captain and I can't do an exchange - my office is routinely freezing cold - it's not unheard of for me to run a heater in summer AND wear a sweater.

My office is either "fires of hell" hot or "arctic freeze" cold. The rest of the offices in my suite (close enough we can all talk without leaving our offices) are the opposite. It's based on where they threw up a wall to add a random conference room, but man, it's awful. The maintenance staff and I are on a first name basis. When they are anywhere near my office, they'll pop their heads in to ask how I'm doing and if I need temperature adjusted. I spend 8-10 hours minimum in my office a day-I like to be comfortable, dammit!!

I'm just taking a guess here but it looks like whenever they remodeled the building and put in heating/cooling systems they really and I mean REALLY went with the lowest bidder. They probably have a thermostat for each floor and is most likely located in the maintenance room somewhere in the basement of the building. At remodeling time, if there is tought and common sense, each floor has a separate system, each office/room has an individual thermostat but those litle knobies hanging on the wall cost like $5 a piece and that adds up when you talk about 30-40 rooms per floor. That's really big money that they save on top of wiring and labor. Or maybe the maintenance guys are doing that on purpose to you The Captain hopping to see some skin . Show them what you got!

Everything here is over-air-conditioned. And what makes it worse for us is that we have no control over it. The controls are in another office on a different floor (with a lot of windows), so their office heats up fast. Our office, with no windows, feels like the middle of a Boston snow drift.

You work in my building, don't you? Except for the basement part (no basements here), I'd swear you've been here. I think the lowest bid in our case was a case - of cheap beer and maybe some pretzels thrown in.

Our thermostats and controls are really random, too. Thankfully, I have one in my office but some of the offices (that are completely separate; rented by separate business and have no connecting access other than the hallway) SHARE a thermostat. There are a lot of hallway door knocking incidents resulting in heated disagreements about the temperature. Also, the thermostat that controls the AC and heat for the bathrooms and the hallway is in the office next door to mine. It was vacant for months. Therefore, NO ONE could control the temperature in the bathrooms. In the winter it felt like you were trekking out to the out house. Those porcelain toilet seats were NOT pleasant! TMI, I know. Anyway, it took all of us months to get the building manager to understand what the issue was.

Our building is a historic landmark and was built before A/C existed. We have a boiler system and underwent a major renovation to the greatest extent we could and still maintain historic landmark status (yes there are tax breaks involved with that) to get A/C in. The problem with boilers (as I understand them) is that they can only reasonably be turned on and off once a year. It's not the knobies, but the major structural changes that we are not allowed to make. Meh. At least I have nice vents/grates in front of my windows for my plants. As far as the maintenance guys...hmmm, some of them are hawt! I'd be willing to go tit for tat. ( just kidding, maybenot nonotreally )

I guess this would be the wrong time to mention I have a thermostat for my office space only and I'm in charge of it since I'm the only one here 80% of the day? <<ducks and runs>>

I'd say that 30% of my business if not more, is restoration. Anything from 1750 to 1900 and is typically buildings where the owner wants to revert to original. That involves removing structures that were added in time and don't match or rebuilding walls that have been removed for the purpose of "modernizing". In a few specific cases I was hired to restore finishes on brick or stone buildings after the electricians, plumbers and HVAC guys did their jobs. It is a tedious process that can get realy expensive depending on how much damage the aforementioned guys did. What I'm saying is that it can be done and still maintain appearances and requirements that would qualify the building for "historical landmark" and yet have all modern amenities. Again, the biggest problem is cost. That's all it comes down to!
You said that you have the duct work in your office. That means that they just cheaped out on installing a thermostat and a regulator inside the duct work. It doesn't take more space than already did and it doesn't change appearances either. But now after the fact, they might have to, depending on circumstances, tear it apart and redo it and that would be very very expensive

I'd be in Heaven at 75-80 degrees! I'm a cold blooded individual and that kind of temperature just makes me feel good Too bad I don't like working in offices. Moreover, with that kind of temperatures and supposedly a bunch of women that have hard time dealing with the heat(therefore scantily clothed!) I wouldn't get anything done but I would easily qualify for "starer in chief" or the supreme title of ogler or "chief pervert" whichever comes first. Ah! Good times!

I just noticed this in your OP. No wonder you're hot. You're wearing an entire suite. Take off the drapes and a couch and all will be well. Oh, and FWIW, you aren't hot. Smokin' hawt, though. Your DH knows a good thing when he sees it.

I almost always wear sleeveless tops for a reason.
1. They're cooler, and 2. That way I'm not tempted to take the jacket off.
I'm supposed to be presenting a professional image. I have the top brass popping in and out of my office with no notice and I don't ever want to be caught with my pants down (or my jacket off).
I had a member of the Board of Directors do an impromptu visit last week. That was flustering enough, at least I was in fully monkey suit so I at least looked like I knew what I was doing.
It's a psychological thing sometimes, like a shield.
In good news though, the meeting with the IRS went well. Yea...
