Thanks.

If you are truly going to rely solely on one source for all that you learn about world events, I would recommend The Onion.

Well, I read a variety. Huffpo, Fox, MSN, Reason, Brietbart, Rare, Slate, etc.

I'm not comfortable relying on only one site. I do, however, find Christian Science Monitor to be a good source and always include it in my "rounds".

I would recommend to not get your news from only one source. I would recommend to Google and check at least two or three sources for anything interesting or spin worthy.

Reuters is pretty intelligent. It usually stays away from all of the "Jodi Arias" drama, or whatever stupid thing is happening. But, it does have an international bent - so you have a hard time getting what you need for many domestic issues. I do NPR knowing it flaps it's left wing a lot. It doesn't do "breaking" news well, but gives you a decent perspective on things that have hung around a few days. Some of the articles are useless, but I have found CNN's website to look at the world in a way I would prefer not to participate. I just don't think the biggest thing that happened for two solid weeks was the Jahi McMath story. Should we know about it? Sure. Do we need updated articles that say nothing new - and a new headline every two hours? I don't think it is the best way to spend my time.

You could try the regular networks - CBS, NBC, ABC?

Got it, remember that situation now. So now that I know who, my next question is why "should we know about it?" I mean having learned that the event took place, what changed in your life? If there had been zero media coverage, would your life be somehow less?

I like the way Google news does it- you have the headline, but with it a link to various other sources for the story- local, national, biased, etc. If I am interested in it I like to see how the different sources report it and the various amounts of information reported or omitted- the biased sites being experts at selective reporting.
For one source- I used to get a magazine called The Week- has a website for current news. The magazine attempts to report stories from various perspectives but it was a quick summary- might try that.

NPR is good. the Financial Times is good. there are a lot of wonderful news sources, but very few are as complete as those two.

that is a good middle of the road publication, if you stay off the opinion page.

I also agree that you shouldn't rely on only one source. There can be a lot of differances between news stories from various sources, some of them with spin. I usually watch the local news in the evenings, then MSNBC Morning Joe in the mornings, and skim MSN/Slate/WSJ during the day, time permitting. If a story is occuring near a big city, like LA, I usually see what their local papers say. Sometimes on the drive in and out to work I listen to NPR (when I'm not listening to an audio book). If you don't mind long articles, I like the New Yorker both for their variety of stories and their in depth reporting. Reading a very interesting article right now about an American who decided to go to Syria to help fight against the Syrian government - poor guy's elevator didn't go all the way to the job floor, converted to Islam and celebrated by getting drunk . Somehow I don't think his visit to Syria will end well.

You can also read news stories (or watch video clips), on your major national (or local) TV networks' web-pages. (NBC, ABC, CBS, etc).

Yahoo, Msn, (their links) Swr.de, Info Radio Berlin-Brandenburg, Deutsche Welle, English Pravda.ru, Debka.com, Die Welt, Der Spiegel, BBC, Fox, Newsmax, Huff Post, rt.com/usa Jerusalem Post. My opinion but a good perspective on international events from foreign viewpoints doesn't hurt .

This question has bothered me for several days. ONE news source? Sounds like the bad old days of Pravda or National Zeitung to me.
So I at first tried to think of the one most unbiased (NPR?) or most professional (NYT?) or maybe nice in depth (The Atlantic?) however none of that worked. None of them cover everything I am interested in following.
Yesterday I decided it would have to be- a somewhat local paper. The Portland Press Herald fits the bill on local. The Boston Globe is a much better paper, but I while it is good with New England news, there is very little in the way of truly local news.
Local news is more important than we give it credit for, probably just because it is so close. Good old Portland Press Herald. That would be my source. And I would still know this morning that my town is looking for a new Selectman, Bibi just carried the Israeli election, and even though the Red Sox got clocked yesterday it is OK because Buchholtz had a couple of good pitches too.
Just wouldn't have much depth is all.
I like to know what is going on in the world, kind of. I have pretty much given up on politics. I think the Republicans and Democrats are pretty much the same and I get tired of hearing that dichotomy. I was wanting one source just to see what the issues are. I can look for depth easily enough on any story I find interesting. I go to Reason every day, but does not report all the news. I use to go to Drudge, but I don't really like it and think they push an agenda. I sometimes go to Reddit's world news.

Sadly I can't recommend any. I knew the facts of a particular news story that went national a while back and the way every media outlet reported it was so skewed, leaving out pertinent facts so the viewer would view it in the most inflamed way possible. Media today is there strictly to generate revenue which is done by gathering clicks online and people watching on TV.
