I see your point, but I wasn't thinking along those lines. I was thinking about personal issues. For example....how to improve the pap test. There are just some things men can't understand and its embarrassing to some to discuss some personal issues with members of the opposite sex around. I agree with you in your context. If you are discussing the problems between women and men, it would only help the discussion to have both around. And your example would be more appropriate to the topic of this thread.
I'm just trying to see both sides.

www.yahoo.com/parenting/h-s-principal-under-fire-for-excluding-white-113187331852.html"School principal and event organizer Nathaniel Rouse explained his thinking to the newspaper. “First and foremost, this is not meant to give a connotation that we were trying to be exclusive,” he said, adding that the decision to allow only black students was based on the philosophy known as “affinity grouping,” which allows people of one racial or other subgroup to be able to express themselves fully and safely. “I believe that the discussion will help us as a school begin talking about race in a deeper and more meaningful way than ever before — and most important, produce change,” As someone who belonged to a female only gym I get the concept. However, I'm not sure how excluding anyone from a dialogue about race will produce positive change. Discuss? Do you think the principal made the right call? This is abhorent reverse discrimination. Caucasians should be decent, always, to all others, but we should never be on our knees begging for forgivness for something we have never done, and be excluded because of our color. That Principle should be fired

... We all know exactly what is going to happen ... Since I am a part of "we", you are wrong. I don't know what would happen. Please only speak for yourself and the other billions of people on the planet that you know perfectly how they will respond.

... At some point you have to include ... Exactly. At some point. Not necessarily from the start, but at some point.

I surely didn't mean to offend or to speak for anyone. Seems like you are a bit sensitive lately, so I'll just apologize and leave it at that. I don't want to upset you any further.

That was basically my point in post #23 (prev page). By excluding the Caucasian students from the discussion, they're continuing to create a wider gap on ever being able to bring the two together to meet a mutual understanding. It's counter-productive.

Speaking of careless school principals/vice principals-this vice principal is white: Calif. vice principal who said, 'I just don't like the black kids,' put on leaveA vice principal at a Fresno middle school was placed on leave after he was filmed saying he doesn't "like the black kids." The 18-second video shows Joe DiFilippo, who's been working at Scandinavian Middle School for nearly five years, leaning against a pole outside the cafeteria next to a student. Another student, who did not appear on video, asks, "Mr. DiFilippo, who at this school do you not like?" After a few students began talking, he says, "I just don't like the black kids." After reviewing the video, the Fresno Unified School District placed DiFilippo on paid administrative leave Monday, district spokesman Jedidiah Chernabaeff said. DiFilippo has been working for the district for 18 years. Meanwhile, the district has hired an outside agency to investigate the vice principal's comments. "What is depicted in the 18-second video clip is disappointing and doesn't meet our expectations," the district said in a statement. "This is a very serious matter that is currently under investigation." Calif. vice principal who said, 'I just don't like the black kids,' put on leaveI suppose I could give this vice principal the benefit of the doubt and say he could have been kidding with the black student(s) but it was a stupid thing to say. He didn't think before he spoke. But I also think the Chicago principal who organized the 'Why Black Lives Matter' discussions and spoke with the black students first should be given the benefit of the doubt. He too didn't think it through before he spoke.

He also said he hopes to have similar groups in the near future for white, Latino, and Asian students, to be followed by a school-wide event that lets all students talk about race together. (from the link in the OP) Smart would have been to have all those things planned and on the calendar from the start. Very true. But you have to start somewhere by taking the first step. Booking three or four rooms at four different times can be done all at the same time. Then you can advertise the whole plan at once. This way when you do have the full group discussion, it will be in a reasonable time frame. The vague "in the future" makes it sound like an after thought. Maybe he made that up after the complaints started? And even if he didn't and has been working on scheduling the others - no one will believe him now.
