When I got home late yesterday afternoon, I discovered my heat wasn't working. The temp outside was in the lower 60's at the time, but the temperature was already dropping and it was supposed to get down in the teens last night. The forecast was for highs in the low to mid 30's for the next few days. I was really worried about me and my house since everything was closed until Monday and we're suppose to have snow and ice by then.
Fortunately, someone I know was able to come look at it for me and just happened to have the stupid part I needed on one of his vans since the supply stores had closed. I almost fell in love when I saw the burners come to life after he replaced the faulty part. Those flames were the most beautiful thing in the world at that moment. lol
I hope everyone stays warm and those of you that have to get out in all that snow, be safe!

Well, I learned something today. It can be too cold for your thermostat to work. We woke up and found the thermostat just said LO. The battery was too cold to work, so it was not calling for heat! Maybe we should keep an old mercury one as backup - unfortunately we got rid of the old one thinking it was pointless. Do you have a replacement battery? I think my thermostat will say low when the battery's power is too low.

Okay. Now I am just done with all of this crap. One of the kids is having surgery on Tuesday. Nothing too serious, but necessary and needed it done yesterday, really, for mobility and pain relief. We are now getting plowable snow starting Tuesday morning. His surgery is scheduled for 3:30. Can absolutely NOTHING in my life ever go as planned?

We got about 18" more... Our total for the last 4 weeks is 6.5 feet now I think? If there's more this week I hope it's Wednesday so my class is canceled, heh. Husband said the highway was so bad it took him almost an hour to get home from work last night, usually a 20 minute drive.

Last night the winds here were so wicked. I thought for absolute sure my front window was going to get smashed. Our storm was a three parter: snow last evening, snow during the overnight and this morning, and NOW we are getting hit with the wind. The puppy is a little freaked and staying very, very close at the moment. So is his mother.

I just hope the plow guy comes to plow the driveway of their apartment building. They said he is none too reliable and I really don't want to shovel the 4 foot wall of snow at the edge of the road. That means I am stuck until plow guy comes.

Lo battery is a different message - it will flash that for about 60 days before it actually stops working and goes blank. This is the ambient temp section. I took the thermostat off the wall and into a (relatively) warmer room and used my hand to warm the batteries. As soon as it got above 31 I could hear it click on, the ambient temp showed as 32, and it read "heat on". I waited until it got above 40, then plugged it back into the wall panel, and the signal got to the boiler to circulate water thru the pipes. Less than ten minutes later, it was LO again. Repeated warming the device to keep things going, while DH started a fire in the woodstove to bring the room's temp up enough to keep the heat running. Normally we only use the woodstove to supplement in cool weather, since the heat it throws off prevents the thermostat from triggering and the rest of the zone gets cold. Biggest problem is that the thermostat is on a cold wall, temporarily while we remodel the room behind it. The wall isn't insulated since it should be an inside wall, normally. A high of -2 isn't normal.

Ohgodohgodhgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod!!! It's SO cold out. I ran into my landlord on the street when I went to start the car, even though I'm not going anywhere. He said "Some morons STILL don't believe in climate change! They should come here."

Well we did get a little snow last night, but now ice has been falling steadily for at least a couple hours. It looks like rain but I can hear it tinkling against my windows. It's not forecast to stop for another few hours. As much I dislike snow, ice is even worse. I'm off work today anyway, so I definitely won't be leaving the house. I'm still so grateful my heat got fixed Saturday instead of having to wait. Now if the stupid ice will just stop before it builds up too much on the trees and power lines and causing power outages. My power seems to go out if the wind blows too hard. Please, no.

This -20 windchill weather sucks, but I'm grateful that occasional cold snaps have been the extent of our winter woes this year. This stuff out east reminds me of last year's hell.

I just want 1 week where the temp is not below zero.

Had to fill up my tank this morning before heading into work...5:30 AM .. -10 and that did not account for the wind.
Let's just say I could not pump the gas fast enough. I hate this weather...

Lol, no defense necessary! You are right, that thermostat shouldn't be on a cold wall, but this isn't normal "cold", either. I think it is an odd choice to make the default "off" in case of extreme low temps. The battery obviously worked enough for the screen to display LO, and I could run thru the scheduled time and temps. It simply stopped following the scheduled program whenever it went below 32. Hmm, is 32 < desired temp? If yes, then default should be "heat on". ETA: No pipes in that room, but we were busy thawing frozen pipes elsewhere last night.

Is your entire house that cold, or just that one room where the thermostat is? I confess, it's warmer (in the 20's) here, but I got up and touched one of my outside walls to see if it was cold to the touch out of curiosity after I read your posts.

I'm going to go outside and work on the lawn. Probably have to wear shorts since it's a little too hot for long pants and I don't want to get overheated and sweaty.
Before you get too murderous, remember your time to get me back will come in August when it's 98 degrees and 98% humidity here.

I've seen and heard thunder snow. I thought it was interesting though not 'Jim Cantore' interesting. He's been with the Weather Channel since its inception (I believe). I would think he would be used to thunder snow by now.

mmhmm-not sure what your overnight temperature is supposed to be for either this Wednesday or Thursday night, but I just saw ours for Wednesday night and it is supposed to be -1 degrees. And that is at the local weather office an not the low temps for the burbs. Coldest night/morning yet since I moved here 21 years ago. Ugh. Ice storm just about over. Not too bad though no above freezing temps until the weekend.
