nSo this morning I get up as usual to take my shower before work. Step into the lovely small room filled with steam. Smile and breath deeply as my lungs relax for a short period during the day...
Lather my hair and reach for my facial scrub. Just as I'm about to put the tube back in the rack...
*BAM* INSTANT COLD WATER!!!
GAAAHHHH!!! I screamed. It's a wonder my DD down the hall didn't levitate out of her bed.
I'm pressed as far back in the shower as I can get frantically trying to reach the shower head and angle it away from me, clawing against the cold tiles like a cat in a bath.
Waiting, praying, if anything the damn water is getting colder.
Teeth chattering I dip my head under the shower wimpering and using every ounce of willpower to get under the frigid stream until as the soap is rinsed out.
By now I can't even keep my jaw clenched together and I'm starting to gasp for air. Water off, grab towel, and dash for the bed water running down my face. Jump under the still warm covers and curl into a ball waiting for feeling to come back.
Just then DH comes in with my coffee and gives me a quizzical look (as I seldom jump back into bed) - I look up at him and manage to gasp out - "hot...water..ran...out".
"Funny", he says "I had plenty of hot water when I did the dishes just now".

I'm not a coffee drinker so that don't impress me much (sigh, guess it's going to be a Shania Twain day) And did you get one of those amazing foot and body rubs to warm you up this morning?

DH did that to me 2 weeks ago. I come out and say something about needing a new hot water heater, and that's when he announce he had done dishes! My DH leaves the water running full force constantly when he does dishes. I don't think I talked to him too much the rest of the day...

No, I had a train to catch. I plan to have him make it up to me tonight though... ( I did say they were REALLY AMAZING foot rubs, right?)

And this is why when we had to replace our hot water heater a couple of months ago, I chose an 80 gallon one. The sales guy was headtilting at this as he knew there were only two of us. MrSroo, can start the washer, do dishes, and turn on the other shower, and I still have hot water. This house is newer to us, we just moved in abut 6 months ago. One of the first things we did was replace/upgrade the water heater (house was built in 1974). *Sigh* I have a feeling the problem has to do with how the pipes were run. We've got a 60 gallon tank, there's no way I shouldn't have been able to have hot water. That will be more difficult to figure out IMHO.

I think we had the same plumbing then Captain. Except I think our plumbing is from 1959 when the house was built.

We've already got it set at a standard above industry recommendations. I'm afraid to set it any higher because DD can scald herself in her shower or bath if she's not careful and we have to use the same care when doing dishes. DH insisted there was plenty of hot water available to him (at the other end of the ranch house) and I believe him. I'm hopeful someone better than me with plumbing will have come across this before and have some suggestions. Seriously, it's like once the hot water is turned on in the kitchen 100% of it goes there, regardless of total availability.

Aw, Mr. Captain is such a cutie, she'll forgive him. When her teeth stop chattering, of course. And her fingers and toes are no longer that attractive shade of blue.

In our house the hot water is pretty even - the temp doesn't vary much if someone does dishes, run the washer or even does the old flush the toilet while you're in the shower trick. What does suffer a lot is the pressure. I can always tell when DH is doing something else with the water when I'm in the shower, because it cuts down about 60%.

LOL, I did that twice with MIL and DH when I started the washer while they were in the shower.
Maybe accidently on purpose?
