Ok so sometimes we come here to brag or bitch because it's a nice safe place to do so, right?
I've had some staff turnover recently so I'm training newbies. I also always have an intern or two on hand to train/teach as well.
In the past 15 minutes I've been able to sit quietly in my office and listen to my newest hire explain a reasonably complex concept that I've been drilling into them to our intern. He got it right. I'm so proud of him (and he will get positive feedback in our weekly meeting). I'll also admit to some pleasure at the fact that I was able to teach it well to him.
I feel a bit guilty because it's his accomplishment, not mine. But hey, right now with sucky year end close I'll take what I can get.

Good deal Captain. Isn't it a pleasure to share knowledge? Yes!!! I've actually been asked to consider teaching undergrad level classes as an adjunct or consider being an assistant at the masters level in my specialty. Unfortunately I do not have the time right now and the pay absolutely sucks. It may something I do in "retirement" though when I don't need to support my family. For now this is the next best thing.

Don't feel guilty! It's a skill in itself to be able to teach someone something complicated! I tried explaining something to my oldest DS when he was 11ish (before he started learning anything about music, it was basic stuff) and I tried 3 different times/ways. He looked at me and said "It's a good thing we're not homeschooled, we'd be stupid". Lucky him that he made me laugh

I think one of the coolest feelings in life is when you explain something and see understanding light up someone’s face. When I was a younger man I had the pleasure of spending time with a gal who was a visiting student from Russia. One Saturday afternoon we had a conversation.
Olga: “ John, I would like to see this movie, will you take me?”
John: Hmmm…. Serious chick flick. But yes, I will.”
Olga: “I do not understand… Chick Flick?
”John: ”Sorry, American slang. A chick is a baby bird. But this time it means girl. Probably a younger girl between say 15 and 30 years old. Flick is slang for movie.”
Olga: “So this a girl movie? Why is this a girl movie?”
John: “Imagine in the theater the people watching. The girls are watching very closely, they have a hand on their heart. A tear is on their cheek because it’s romantic, and tragic, and wonderful and the girls can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Olga: ”Yes, okay.”
John: “The men, they are bored and falling asleep. Some are whispering to each other about the football game. Others are watching but wishing that something would blow up.”
Olga’s face lights up. “I understand this!”
John: “I knew you would.”
Olga: “Chick Flick”
John: “Chick Flick.”

Well, we didn't hear the rest of the chick flick story. Did he take her to the movie or was it over by the time he explained what a chick flick was

Welts- If I recall correctly you are a Russian gal as well. Perhaps you would have selected a different film. NNP-Olga had been sitting at my dinning room table working on some homework.I was on the couch nearby reading a book. Olga rose from her seat, marched across the room, placed a hand behind my head and kissed me in a way I will remember on my deathbed. She said "I love the way you help me understand things." We did see the movie, but a much later showing.

She was a phenomenal girl. Durring the Clinton/Lewinsky business she asked why Americans were so upset that the president had a mistress. I spent a whole afternoon talking about the bible belt, family values, and what it takes to get elected president. I never did manage to get that whole thing across to her and her final conclusion was that " Americans are crazy".

Kissing Russian girls is not to be scoffed at. I highly recomend it for everyone.
