They are big birds - especially majestic when flying. Glad that Ozzie is recovering well.
Harriet's maternal instincts (as always) will take care of tending to E6.

E6 is not on alert and Harriet is quiet. There doesn't seem to be any immediate danger. It's an adult eagle with what appears to be a fledgling. They're just sitting there in the tree with Harriet. E6 is in the nest and calm.

You're welcome. That was quite a bit of drama for awhile. Seems all is well, though.

You're welcome. That was quite a bit of drama for awhile. Seems all is well, though. The drama is more from the posters rather than the birds. Now E6 is sitting on the edge of the nest, talons pointing into the nest, and looks like it could fall backwards out of the nest. Truth be told, there is a good 6 inches or so of nest behind it. The picture of the nest is deceiving. Lots of room in the nest where it looks like it stops. I have to admit, after E5 passing and then Ozzie getting hurt, there is a lot going on in the pine. Time for a long cold one for me!

Yep, you have to look. It's been like a car crash in slow motion lately. After seeing Harriet and E6 in person this afternoon, I really think everything is good. Harriet did not really chatter much with the intruders above the nest. Some of the posters get really carried away with worry. They are more high strung than posters here on the board! I guess we have adopted the family as a family pet, so to speak. I saw the video of Ozzie being held, and fed mice and herring. He probably was sort of doped up yet, but coming along well. Kudos to the female feeding him with her hands. I would worry of getting bit with the beak.

I get carried away with worry. Not naming the baby and just calling him e6 has done nothing to make me any less invested. I know this kind of stuff probably happens fairly often but to be a witness to it can be kind of tough.

Well, it seems like everything is ok today, but one intruder is still hanging in the pasture. Not sure if Harriet will feel comfortable going after food with it there.

Only Harriet and E6 are in the pine now. Looks like the intruder has moved on for the time being and all is quiet.

E6 fledged this morning. It was hovering with flapping wings off a branch above the nest, rose about probably four feet, and kind of swooped off the nest area and was airborne. I think it surprised itself, and flew to a nearby pine in the pasture and landed. Harriet was off fishing at the time, came back with breakfast, and E6 returned to the nest. We do have an adult Eagle still landing in the nest tree. Lots of talking between the birds. Do not know if it is a male trying to coax Harriet......

Everytime I get online E6 is not on the nest, and I go oh sh**! Have to click on the chat and go to camera two to find out where it is........ Just have to accept the nesting season is coming to a close, and they successfully raised one Eaglet. Now I hope they keep the site open to see if Ozzie and Harriet reconnect successfully.

Ozzie is just about on the local news down here everynight for a quick photo op. He is still bandaged up, but is eating on his own, and looks as magnicent as ever, other than the bandages, lol.
E6 is staying in limbs of various trees, learning to deal with pesky crows, etc. Harriet keeps chasing away single Eagles who seem to be showing interest in her.

This is our last day down here, and we will miss seeing Harriet and E6 in person. E6 has been patrolling the pasture area the last few days, being dive bombed by crows and telling other Eagles to leave his area alone. Harriet has been giving it a lot of alone time lately, and I assume it is to continue the learning process for the Eaglet.
Ozzie will be in rehab for another month at the minimum, so we do worry whether he will reconnect with Harriet. She has been visited by other adult eagles who seem to recognize she is on her own right now. The mods seem to think they will reconnect after his release, but I have my doubts. He did not have surgery on his wing, and I am thinking unless it heals 100% he may not be released, if he cannot hunt on his own. We shall see.
The adventure continues!
I saw an Osprey nest on a pole at the north end of FT Myers beach yesterday on a pole about 20 foot high about 20 feet from the road, with at least one chick sitting in front of her. There was no where close to park, so did not get to watch, but, it is great to see these nests in urban areas. Speaks well for their survival.

When I used to take Amtrak from New Haven (CT) to Boston, You could see a number of osprey nests on polls by Long Island sound inlets. They do like being close to water.

Ozzie is still locked up in confinement, mending rather well.
Unfortunately, it looks like Harriet is not going to sit around waiting for him. There has been a young adult male hanging around for two weeks. First she tried to chase him off, but he was persistent. Last few days they have been sitting together in the tree, and some posters think they have mated, but the mods say no, they have not. Eagles do mess around with their mates all year, although the female can only become pregnant in a two week period.
Nature hates a vacuum, and it looks like Ozzie might have a problem, if he is not released very soon. E6 was not happy with the new male for the first week, but seems to have accepted the intruder.

Today is the last day for any chats with the moderators. E6 has flown the coop, so to speak, and has not been at the nest for days. Hopefully it is fine and just doing what juvenile eagles do after fledging. At least that is the hope of all the followers. Harriet shows up occasionally at the nest to do housekeeping with a younger male eagle, who seems to be trying to take Ozzie's place, but she seems just to tolerate him rather than to take him as a mate at this time. Ozzie is still in rehab, and they will not say if and when he will be released, but he is progressing according to CROW. Anyone interested in following Ozzie's healing can follow CROW on their facebook site. THE CAMERAS WILL STAY ON LINE FOR AN INDEFINITE TIME, BUT MODERATORS ARE FINISHED AFTER TODAY.
There will be a 6 pm to 9 pm farewell chat with moderators tonight to say goodbyes to mods and Harriet. Harriet might be there. She was at the nest in early evening, doing some house cleaning. Evidently this is common behavior to clean up the nest for the end of the season, in preparation for next year's hatch. I actually think it is kind of cute the chat ends on Mother's Day. Sort of a last tribute to Harriet, and her trials and tribulations of raising her young.

www.richardpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.html#Harriet is currently house cleaning on the nest tonight. Tonight is the final evening with moderators and an open chat. Cameras should stay on until closer to hurricane season then will close down to October or November when Harriet returns. The big question is, will she be reunited with Ozzie, or have a new suitor? The adventure continues..............

UPDATE! Ozzie was released earlier this morning by CROW where he has been under rehab. Crow did post a video of the release. He has not been spotted in the nest area as of yet, but was released somewhere near it. It is anticipated he will wind up around the nest and hook up with Harriet, who has had a younger suitor the last two months. It will be interesting if feathers are going to fly! The Eagle cam is down, but members are on the ground, and they have temporarily re-opened the chat to cover any happenings.

That is great! I'm hoping he hooks up with Harriet again. They made a great team. I hope not to hear about any eagle fights though. I guess I have to leave that up to them, damn it.

Just in case anyone is interested, the cameras are not back on just yet, but Harriet has been to the nest the last couple of days with Ozzie, and another Eagle. I do not know if it is the one that was labeled FV for frequent visitor, who showed up after Ozzie was injured. Some of the moderators are posting updates the last couple of days. It was great news to see Ozzie is alive and well. He had left the nest area immediately after being released and was not spotted until four or five days ago.

I am interested and glad to hear Ozzie is around. Hope it works out for Oz and Harriet. I was just thinking about them. Our eagle pair returned a couple weeks ago. They have been really loud. I guess telling the neighborhood that they are back. They are one of the very few things I like about winter.
