Have WSOP write them a check for the amount won instead of cash next time. Traveling with that amount of cash on you is asking for big trouble.
As for the police? Give the money back-but write a check for the exact amount.

This would make me mad and I would take whatever legal steps I could to fight back. I want every dime ......... and the state can pay for all legal charges.

While this law is being abused left and right, I personally wouldn't go around with $100k in cash.

That's what the two gentlemen in the article did. The problem is that the cash winds up with... the lawyers. And no, the state won't pay your legal fees. It's the state.

this reminds me of the guy who got all of his tortilla flour taken because some dumb asshole mistook it for cocaine. he spent the weekend in jail for nothing, and didn't get his food back.

Guess I won't be taking much cash with me to Florida in my car. 20 hour drive. Yikes.

Were they breaking the law? If they were, why were they not arrested? Does it get to a point that the police will take just what you have in your billfold and send you on your way?
Let's see here if they just take the money, they get to keep it, if they arrest someone with the money the courts decide what happens to the money, Really?
