I think you guys have talked me into it. We'll go get a mom/daughter mani pedi together for her 12th bday. I guess I'll have to have her scrub the floors beforehand so she doesn't ruin her nails...

I think it sounds like a great idea. Only you know your DD but if she is aware it is a special treat and doesn't expect it to be a normal thing, why not?

Gwen got a mani/pedi for her birthday this year. I wanted one because I was at the point where I couldn't bend over to do my nails myself so I figured I'd take her along.
She enjoyed it but she much prefers having mommy do her nails at home.
I don't take the YM approach that I need to provide my kid with a crust of bread, some tap water, a feed sack dress and some rocks in order to build character.
I think spoiling is more in the attitude than what you buy/give.
Gwen is usually very grateful for anything she receives, she's not perfect but she's only four. We have drilled into her you always thank people because they do not have to give you anything.
Compare that to DH's niece and nephew who won't acknowledge anything that isn't expensive/fancy. I stopped participating in the Christmas gift giving when I didn't receive so much as a thank you because I couldn't compete with what their parents bought them. They are 13 and 8 so they should know their manners by now. THAT to me is spoiled that you expect "the best" and anything less isn't worth the slightest acknowledgement.
Gwen is starting to develop the "gimmies" when viewing advertising but she forgets about it as soon as the commercial is over. She doesn't throw tantrums demanding whatever it is and takes it in stride when we tell her no.
She cracked me when she told me she wanted this kit that you can use to create phone cases. I said 'You don't even have a phone!"
She thought about it for a moment and goes "Mommy I need a phone!"
