No, seriously. Do you believe there is some cosmic force (we'll call it karma) that somehow monitors the negative and positive energy we generate during our temporary stay and returns it in kind?

No, but I do believe pay back is a bitch. If that's karma, who knows, maybe it is. There's just too many things that happen in this world that have no point or purpose. Why can some people tiptoe thru the tulips in life with nothing ever bad happening to them, and others must wonder what they've ever done to deserve some of the tragedies they have had to face.
Karma? Bad Luck? Payback for how you behaved in a previous life? Gods will?

Yes.
In fact, I just got bitten by a mosquito. Probably for causing Moon so much heartburn.

Odd this thread would be started right after I made this post in YM on the "OMG" thread. I think it's quite fitting as a response to the OP in this thread too:
I stole this from TMR's sig line - I think it speaks volumes of someone who'd wish bad Karma on someone else - or find pleasure in revenge or making someone else unhappy.
They should remember that Karma also has a way of turning itself around and biting back. You generally reap what you sow:

I don't think karma works perfectly, but to a degree, I think there is some karma in the world. Both good & bad.

I don't believe in karma or cosmic forces or the tooth fairy or any other supernatural crap.
I do, however, now have Karma Chameleon firmly lodged in my brain.
Thanks, Captain.

I do. But Karma is a cosmic kind of energy, kind of like the universe has a choice to give you good luck or bad luck. If you put the right kind of energy out it picks good luck more times than not. It's not about people being bitchy because they don't like you.

No. Don't believe in "karma". I do believe that, inevitably, something not so good is going to happen to everyone sometime in their lives. I also believe some people sit around and wait for that to happen and then yell "Karma is a Bitch!" Bad things happen to everyone - to good people and to bad people. It's life - not karma.
I do like to say it, tho!

Karma is the destiny that you earn through your actions and behavior.
It's really not much different than "The Golden Rule"
Do Unto Others as You would Have Done Unto you.
- One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. (Directive form.)
- One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated (Cautionary form, also known as the Silver Rule).

Karma doesn't cause disease or terminal illnesses - nor does Cancer choose its victims.

I do. I wish I had an explanation for why little kids get cancer(or other painful and deadly diseases), but I don't. that's why I try help where I can with Make-a-Wish - to try make things better for them, if only for a day. for everyone else though - karma will catch up to you eventually if you're an ass. SL's post is good - Karma is the destiny that you earn through your actions and behavior.

I called it karma when an ex that dumped me on my birthday (by stopping speaking to me with no reason) knocked up a girl he barely knew a few months later (and who he ended up finding out he didn't care much for after he married her). The ex after that also ended up knocking up a girl after we broke up, I think it was the first girl he dated after me too. Sometimes I debate whether I should tell the ex after that (who dumped me by drunken text) that karma is probably going to come his way and make him a daddy soon.

Nope, I don't believe in it. I treat others in the manner they treat me (if I'm familiar with them), or as I like to be treated (if they're strangers) because that's just the way I am.

I'm not a believer in Karma, either (other than the one that just posted here ). I've seen hideous people appear to live charmed lives, and I've seen wonderful people appear to battle the onslaught of endless demons. As Shaun says, it's random to the point of capriciousness. The best we can do is the best we can do - and duck if you see ugly comin'!

I made sure I pointed that out when I found out thru mutual acquaintances that the baby had been born. I called to congratulate him and his wife on their new addition, and that his son had picked a great day to join the world.

No, seriously. Do you believe there is some cosmic force (we'll call it karma) that somehow monitors the negative and positive energy we generate during our temporary stay and returns it in kind? I don't believe in that karma. This karma I like: kar·ma ˈkärmə/ noun noun: karma
(in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. Here is a belief: We are here to learn lessons to gain perfection. Some of those lessons are sweet. The patience from being a long living tree, loved and respected human, etc are wonderful. Some are quite bitter. Cancer at 5, tortured and murdered, etc are tough trips through the world. I read one time (though have never rediscovered where I read it) the Buddha addressing a group of people. It said something like, "The Buddha said I am going to tell you the story of the eagle and the dove. Which of you were the eagle and several people raised their hand. Which the dove and several others raised their hand." There is an assumption that the same collection of molecules that make up "Bill" this trip through this world will be collected again in a future trip through the world. This story illustrates that to not be the case. I don't know that I believe in this karma and this story, but it is the most comforting story I have found. I used to be searching for truth, now I will settle for a good fantasy.

So last night I was at a meeting listening to a guy give a report and I know the details of what he is talking about. As he is talking I am thinking "Man he is spouting a load of shit". This morning this guy discovers he has had a sewage back up in his basement. Some of you call that a coincidence. I call it karma

I don't believe in karma. i do believe you reap what you sow. And if you are an ass, then don't be surprised if that somehow comes back to haunt you at some point. My Grandfather loved to tell the story of an officer that had a higher rank & was a complete ass to him. At some point many years later he somehow ended up a higher rank & ended up on the review board when that ass was up for a promotion. Guess who didn't get promoted
