did your state have one today? Massachusetts had a pretty full set of primary ballots today, 9/9. I am an unenrolled registered voter, which in MA means I can choose which party's ballot I wish to use for the primary. I had races in both D/R that I wanted to vote in, but there were more in the D party that I wanted to make sure I voted in, so I used that one today. I'm watching the early results/concession speeches on the news right now and I'm just sick over a couple of the results. does anyone else feel like they regularly vote FOR a candidate (party irrelevant) during the primaries, only to then vote AGAINST someone else in the general election? it feels like that's been the pattern the last few elections for me. a) it's getting old.....and b) WTF?

this is, i believe, the LAST run of primaries before the GE. there are only five states that have them, i believe. they are all in the NE region. blue state primaries, so not that crucial. all of the interesting stuff in primary land is on the GOP side right now.

not here in MA - we had an 18-yr US Rep lose his (D) primary to a returning veteran*, and a very tightly contested (D) race for Governor. that's the one that's actually making me a bit ill right now. I feel like I've been voting against this woman as long as I've been able to vote, and she won again tonight.
*not my district

thanks, but not in that case. that Rep barely won his seat 2 years ago - according to media reminders today, it was a 1% margin. like I said, that wasn't my district. that's the one result tonight that I'm actually happy about. the governor's race, though? the (D) candidate was the one who managed to lose the "Kennedy seat" to Scott Brown in the interim election. that, in this state, should tell you anything you need to know about her. tonight, I have to say, apparently not.

Yeah, someone I really wanted to win, didn't. I am kind of upset about the whole thing.
I think my town is very stupid. Although, very snobbish

HER? she ran the worst campaign EVER. she was the one that thought she could just coast to victory, right?

yes, her. she won the (D) primary for Governor tonight. I checked out job postings in Toronto (lots of engineering firms, I'm a dual citizen) in 2004 after the general elections, but wasn't really all that serious at the time. I'm seriously considering leaving the state if Coakley wins the general election here. my place has been on the market for a year and a half already, this really isn't going to help matters - and severely curtails my ambition to buy again right away, at least until the general elections are settled. let's say I can sell between now and November....as in, cleared, I no longer have a claim to this address as far as deeds. can I still vote here? at this point, I intend to stay in MA, just in a different zip code. I didn't put much thought into voting while couch surfing, but damn if I'm going to throw away a vote to counter that <not so nice word....>

clearly not, she kept running. I actually commented on the news sites tonight - not something I do often, b/c really it doesn't reach those who need to hear it - that 5% isn't a "landslide victory" like they'd been declaring since the polls closed.
gah. sadly, I think that's my standard reply this week. can I just go back on vacation and unplug again? the world can't possibly dissolve in another week...!

There was a Democratic primary in NYS for the Governor. Left academic Zephyr Teachout was running against Andrew Cuomo. I voted for her because I think Cuomo is a douche.
he also filed suit to keep Teachout off the ballot. If he hadn't have done that, I probably never would have heard of her and not voted in the election. I voted just because he was being a bully. He won 55/45, but that's not impressive for an incumbent political royal against some unknown.
