my sympathies. this problem has dropped off to nearly zero with a needle exchange program in San Francisco. perhaps if we adopted this model nationally, say, 50 years ago, your friend's daughter would be alive and well today. but, of course, since drug users are criminals, "enabling" them to use drugs in a more healthy way is impossible. Agree that the needle program saves lives. She was doing heroin according to her toxicology tests. I have a hard time letting kids do heroin as much as giving them a bottle of oxycodone for use at their own discretion. to be clear, i have ONLY advocated for decriminalization, here- NOT legalization. your idea of running the drug business like a pharmacy works fine for me, especially with drugs with known addictive potential, and known harmfulness. heroin would totally qualify.

FWIW, a random guy in Princeton, thinks Christie(NJ) will eventually use J&J as a vehicle to legalize and dispense pot. Not a bad idea actually as J&J retains the names of businesses it buys and it just could create new ones if desired.

i would push for full legalization for pot. i think it is the right thing to do, based on it's addictive potential and harmfulness. but decriminalization is a good first step.
