Slightly OT, but happy to find out its a nicer story than the woman who killed a teacher in France in front of the students because she was mad about how her son was treated.

Anyone know what the equivalent sentence would be if she had done this to two police officers instead?

She committed assault. I think the sentence was fair. Makes me wonder what goes on in her home.

Three counts of assault against three public servants. I don't think the sentence was long enough. Glad to see the result ended in felony counts, not misdemeanors. Even if she gets early release, she's still a felon. All that over a visitor's badge. What a butthead.

Apparently, she felt that she was above following the school's rules, because she hadn't been up until then. Seems to me it would have just been easier to comply.

The sentence is too short for 3 charges of felony assault.
She should have been given equal time for each of the three charges. Her sentence as it is, works out to just over 4 months for each case. That's not even a slap on the wrist.

I'm disinclined to believe much that comes out of the mouth of someone who gets involved in a violent incident in front of their autistic child and other children. I'm also wonder a bit how anyone could be surprised by their plea bargain.
On the other hand, schools can and do close ranks when they don't want to deal with someone ever again. It would have been very difficult for the teacher or the lunchroom staff to contradict the principal.
In theory, we have trials to air these things out. In actuality, almost everyone takes the plea because no matter how bad the plea is, the potential sentence at trial is much, much heavier. The prosecutor has effectively become the judge.

It's off-topic, but do prosecutors see mug shots when they are making decisions regarding how to charge? I wonder how many months that angry and defiant booking photo might have cost this gal.

I was wondering if she only got in trouble because she assaulted an admin? Or because she was white?

Plenty of teachers get assaulted and nothing happens. Reverse discrimination is a fact of life.

The MSN new article was brief and there is more information. Archie posted an article from this past February detailing the event. The link and paragraph below describe the sentencing event which took place yesterday, the 20th of August. This information may have something to do with jail time, this time. "Although Smallwood has a past conviction for trafficking marijuana and attempted tampering with evidence in 2011, she has never before served time in prison."Akron mom sentenced to 14 months in prison for school confrontation
