We have 3 living room remotes, one for the TV, one for the receiver and one for the DVD player and I'm about ready to throw them all into the trash! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png) DH gets so frustrated with me because I can't understand how all these devices work together with the different remotes. Apparently, I left the TV on and somehow shut the receiver off and I don't know how I did it. I guess I shut the tv off from the tv and not the remote? "Okay, if you push the ON button on this remote and the receiver doesn't come on then you....Now, this button on this remote only works this...Now if the tv is on and the receiver is off, you have to push this button or if the receiver is on and the tv is off then you...Now if you want to watch the TV in the kitchen, then here's what you do, but you can't watch the DVD in the kitchen only the tv because..." I can balance my checkbook, while talking on the phone, while baking a pie. Why can't I understand this TV remote crap? ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/headbang.gif)

LOL - if you turned off your cable receiver remote, your TV remote would stay on - probably a gray (yet lit-up screen because you aren't getting a signal with the cable remote turned off.
I leave my digital cable remote turned on 24/7 and turn off the TV or DVD using the remote specifically for those components.

Later ìn the episode, as Ray's wife is chewing him out for encouraging Robert, Ray accuses his wife of pretending she did not know how to operate the VCR and remotes so she could not tape his sports shows..

Oh I got a universal remote and programmed my TV and DVD to it. I got rid of one crappy remote. YOUTUBE helped me to set the darn thing up.
I feel so dang grown up now, like I can conquer the whole universe.

I followed the instructions to program my comcast cable remote to work with everything. It was easy. The t.v., stereo and dvd remote controls have stayed in a drawer and haven't come out in years. My dad struggles way more with his fancy universal remote and is constantly pulling out his 3 other remotes. But, that thing does look cool.

Tenn...what a hoot. I've never seen this show, but now want to. But first I'll have to dig the remotes out of the trash and learn to use them. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) ETA: OMG!!! The wedding video? Thanks for the painful laugh.

A good cast made a good series.

My wife doesn't really understand how the remotes work either, but she knows enough to be dangerous. Sometimes she'll let me sleep in on Saturday morning and I'll hear her putzing around trying to put the kids cartoons on, then all the sudden I'll hear "I'll go wake up daddy and he'll fix it" *thump, thump, thump". AHHHHH!
A lot of people don't like the Apple TV remote because it's so small, but their iphone app works pretty darn well I think. I kinda wished I had the option to control things from my phone, but maybe at some point in the future...comcasts app sucks.

I just can't understand all this new technology, at all. I still haven't figured out my iPad or smart phone. Maybe it's a left/right side of brain thing, along with being older. Now art and music I get, totally.

We had a universal remote that sucked, but it was all programmable and we could name the buttons, so anyone could reason through it. Then we bought a regular universal, and the buttons could take a macro, but they are just numbered. So, I took a picture of the remote, and wrote instructions on it with arrows pointing to each button and hung it on the wall. I am a champ of policies and procedures and written documentation at work, I just decided those skills might help me out here at home.

My DH used to get bent out of shape if I pushed the wrong button when programming or using the remote to play DVDs or VHS, etc - but if he screwed up, it was the fault of the remote - or the batteries - or whatever else excuse he could blame it on.
Yet I was the one who set up and programmed the Universals to use for all the components- and he was always calling me into his cave to pre-set his recorder (on timer) to tape a NASCAR or Indy race for him. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I can balance my checkbook, while talking on the phone, while baking a pie. Why can't I understand this TV remote crap?
I'm a K I S S person also. Keep It Short and Sweet.
I also won't carry anything heavy. Has to have wheels under it.

My DH is like this also. He is so anal about his stuff that I won't dust the top of his dresser. He objects to things being re-arranged. I don't touch anything of his. Saves a lot of grief.
