So we recently moved and hired a (supposedly) reputable company to install and refinish existing hardwood.
To say they effed up the job would be kind. This is the third house we're in with hardwood so we do know what we're doing and even the company owner now admits his people messed up.
They were supposed to be in today to start the remediation. I haven't gotten home yet but DH says it doesn't look like anything was done. The are supposed to have the hallways re-finished by Friday.
I am not the kind to sue someone without trying to work it out first. In fact, I have never sued (or been sued) by anyone in my life. I like to think reasonable adults can own up to their actions and do the right thing.
So do I:
1. Call the owner now and raise hell asking why wasn't any work done today? 2. Call my lawyer and get him to draft a come to jesus letter? 3. Give them until Friday to get caught up?
Thoughts, suggestions?

1. Call the owner now and raise hell asking why wasn't any work done today? Yes 2. Call my lawyer and get him to draft a come to jesus letter? I'd mention this part to the owner when you call to raise hell but wait before you contact lawyer to have the entire situation documented if/when you do. 3. Give them until Friday to get caught up? Yes - after you let them know #1 and #2. and I'll add: 4. DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT. I hope you also paid by credit card. We get reward points (cash), which is always nice, but I love having USAA and their lawyers on my side when there is a problem/dispute. I hope they do the job that was promised without further incident, but we both know that probably won't be the case. And Murphey's Law - be prepared to fight and you may not have to. Good luck and: It's medicinal and prevents murdering people.

I'd certainly call the owner and let him/her know I'm not satisfied with what's going on and expect to be kept informed and also expect the work to be done correctly and on time. I'd make it clear I have no hesitation to call an attorney if my needs aren't satisfied in this regard. If the work doesn't receive immediate attention and the crew doesn't do their jobs correctly and politely, I'd do exactly as I said I'd do - call my attorney.
