I made a goal of having at least $150,000 saved by the end of the year. At the end of December I was at $136,000. I thought I could make it there if I really cut back and sold items I didn't use.
But...
January hit me with a $1000 vehicle expense. February hit me with a $5000 medical bill.
Daughter's wedding in June will have to be scaled back some now.
I don't think I can recoup that much money to make it but it isn't going to make me give up. Just makes me frustrated.
Plus I was really needing a new (to me) vehicle this year. Put way too much money in the one I have over the past couple of years.

Ya, this month especially has shown me how I was counting on everything going perfectly to hit my savings goals. I have to look at increasing my income again. I am looking into a couple of options now.

ilovedolphins, you are doing great! It stinks that you had those major setbacks, but you were financially prepared for them! And I'll bet that your daughter will gladly cut back on the wedding, knowing that your health comes first. Karma coming your way.....

Thanks. She is paying for a good share of the wedding. I am paying for the dress and other small items but I wanted to give them some money for their wedding gift. I guess I will see what is happening by then.
I have (had) $4600 in my health savings account but I was also hoping to get to the eye doctor and get new glasses this year but I guess I will see how the rest of the year goes.
It seems like a lot of people around me are having the same start in the year so I don't feel all alone anyways.

Maybe you can give them some money when times get a bit better for you? It would be nice for you to be able to give it for the wedding, but you are going through a rough time right now. AndI am sure your daughter would be much happier accepting it, knowing that your health care is paid for and your needs are met first.

My daughter is a remarkable person. She said she would pay for the wedding dress but I have always wanted to do that for her (or for me). She understands and is a great daughter. I couldn't have asked for a better one.

It sounds to me like you're doing remarkably well ~ I'd love to have $136,000 in the bank!
