Last night was my moment. We took a tour bus to a festival. One of my co-workers is in a band that was playing. The tour bus was filled with Americans and Italians. I spent most of my evening taking care of a really drunk young lady from our tour. I had never met her before, but for some reason she sought me out to help her. Maybe because my daughter was there and she could tell I was a mom? She could barely stand. At one point she dumped half her beer all down the side of me, burned my dress with her cigarette, and then barfed near our table.
Then some young soldiers that we were with nearly got into a fist fight.
My husband and I were standing off to the side and it seriously hit me....I am just too old for this shit.
When has it hit you that you are too old to do certain things?

I used to regularly close bars, even up to 2010. My girlfriends and I would just dance and sing and party until we couldn't anymore. Sometimes we would head to Tampa because the bars closed later. When DF and I connected in 2009, I did it a few more times, my girlfriend still has me recorded singing DAYDREAM BELIEVER for some bizarre reason because I was never a MONKEE fan to begin with, with some beach bar band! But then I just winded down and now, I'm not even much of a drinker anymore. Someone behaving like that to me would just make me want to go home. I don't go to buccaneer football games because the drinking, puking, and every other word being the F word-and these aren't cheap seats-just got old.

I seriously woke up one day, and thought "OMG. I got old!" It goes through my head pretty often now.

I guess I've always felt old. Or maybe I'm just lazy. A lot of the stuff that people my age thought was fun or worthwhile (getting wasted, rowdy games, dating the wrong guy and the never ending breakup/makeup drama) just always seemed like far too much work or too painful to bother with.
I've always said I would take up drinking as a hobby when I retire since my family is full of alcoholics who lose 20 years of their life to it and don't get their head together until after they've reached their 40's; I'll start at 60 and lose myself thru 80. Maybe I'll move to that massive Florida retirement community and be one of the ones to get arrested for DUI on my golf cart or for starting a fight in the bar.

It was the day I looked in a full length mirror...and screamed!!! When did I start looking like my Mother? And can we talk about a magnifying mirror? Tell me, those are only our friends when trying to pluck the black hairs on our chins.

I knew I was too old for that shit when I saw people my own age getting wasted and making a spectacle of themselves - I saw how ridiculous they looked or behaved, and decided I didn't want to be the spectacle for someone else to witness.

When DD was in high school, & I had to start climbing bleachers again because the stairs were too crowded. And I'm thinking, "when did bleacher climbing start to hurt?" I used to climb, & run across bleachers when I was younger, now I do it, & it jolts my joints. Ouchie!
Regarding the dancing/bar scene. When I saw 30-year-old guys hanging out with college kids, I didn't want to be "that old person".

When my grand kids talked me into going on one of those fair rides, that lifts you way up into the air and you free fall back down. I think I had a mini stroke doing that.

I think I would have had a Grand Mal stroke! (really BIG!) *Grand mal means big illness in French. ( I had to check, before I used it. -heh )

I've been old for a long time. I have nothing against drinking, but I cannot stand to be around drunks. The sloppiness, the falling down, the getting sick - ugh. I get embarassed for those people, but they don't even care.
I'm already dreading 4th of July because it falls on a Friday. Normally, my "excuse" to get out of those rowdy, drunken holiday parties is "Sorry, have to work tomorrow!". Won't work this week. I'll leave early anyway though. I don't care what people say about me. I love to sleep and I'd rather make it home without getting injured or killed by a drunk driver!

A couple of years ago on my first girl's weekend since I had DS. We went out to a dinner and then dancing at a club. I realized that I was tired of taking care of my drunk girlfriends and their drama, that being hit on by drunk guys wasn't flattering, that clubs are irritating, and that what I really wanted to do was watch tv and have a glass of wine in my hotel room and sleep into the glorious and unheard hour of nine a.m. This is where I am at in life. I have zero desire to take care of drunk people anymore. It isn't fun. Of course, Goose, my daughter, and I were the only sober ones on the tour bus home....but I still spent the next day over the toilet. I got food poisoning from the hamburger I had at the festival. I also learned a valuable lesson (well several). The main lesson I learned is, even if you can keep ginger ale and saltines down, that doesn't mean you can keep pizza down.

The American festival here gets loud and obnoxious. We actually had the base commander relieved of his duties last year because he got plastered at the 4th festival. We are going to Piedmont to visit some Italian friends that moved there a few months ago. It will be a nice relaxing weekend with good wine (in moderation), good cheese, and best of all, good friends.

Is it sad that every time I go out somewhere I make sure to carry barf bags and paper towels. And it's not for me.

I really expect my "you're too old" moment will come in August at the Motley Crue concert. The heat will be miserable no matter what & I've started having hot flashes too. But I'm determined that I'm gonna have fun, remind myself not to bang my head too much, drink a ton of water, and bring my little "fuck it, I'm hot & I don't care how stupid it looks" handheld fan. But damn I wish they had put the concert in Phillips Arena instead of outside. Last time I saw them outside, we had lawn tickets. This time I made sure we had seats. lol

When roller coaster stopped being fun. When your parents tell you you're old. Speaking of Tampa, I was visiting my parents in Florida and asked them about Ybor City since I read about it on the plane. They told me I was too old.

It isn't the fun place it used to be. No more cops on every corner and it borders on unsafe at night. Took the kids to COLUMBIA restaurant and I felt unsafe going to and from my car. Of course the drunks hollering at me didnt help.

I'm apparently too old to make airplane noises and motions with French fries.
Excuse me, Mr McDonalds Franchise Owner, that's how my mom taught me to eat.

From a drinking perspective, I think I did a NYE party with friends when I was about 26 and people were throwing up and falling down stairs and all that. I still had fun, but looking back I thought to myself that the whole scene just wasn't me anymore. That was then followed up with an experience at a jimmy buffet concert when people just walk around acting like idiots.
I still like to drink, but I'm an 8pm to 11pm drinker.
