I'm waiting for a call from the local CSA representative to set up our veggie delivery this summer. I tried calling several times yesterday with no results.
So this morning, I get a phone call where both the phone's caller ID and the one through the TV came up with the local rep's name and number, so I picked it up to get this message:
"Stay on the line to learn how you can get your FREE cruise to the Bahamas. Agents standing by."
How did they do this? How did a telemarketer manage to shanghai my caller ID with the last phone call that I made on our landline?

Isn't technology wonderful? Are you sure there wasn't just a glitch in your caller ID software? DH had that happen on his cell the other day - no matter who he tried to call it ended up dialing the last person who had called him instead. Rebooting the system fixed it right up.

This is a landline, not a cell phone.

It's called "Caller ID Spoofing". They can literally (I don't know how) make the caller ID show a different # that what they are calling from.
And it's annoying as hell. I rarely answer the phone anymore unless the caller ID shows someone I know.

Most of the telemarking calls I get are a local number. The only people I want to talk to get my cell number.

I have had out-of-state telemarketers call me using a local area code and a person's name as opposed to a business name. That way, you pick up the phone and at worst, think it might be a wrong number. I answered the phone and 'bam' - the same credit counseling recording I have received countless times from various out-of-state area codes.

I suspect enough of them have been turned in by Do Not Call numbers that it was only a matter of time before they came up with a new gimmick.

I am wondering if all these commotions are worth the time they are wasting having IMO 99% of people hanging up or telling them what to do... However if they are still doing it - there MUST be a profit in all this crapdoing...

I pay $140 per year to have a landline - just so I can keep my cell phone number from any list that might turn into a telemarketing list. I never answer it. It is either someone trying to take my money, or my mother.

Drives me mad....the phone never stops ringing. I don't want a person bothering me in my own home, when I have got in from a hard days work. I pay for a landline too.......but with it come all this harassment.
