www.certiport.com/Portal/desktopdefault.aspx?page=common/pagelibrary/IC3_home.htmlYesterday, I had an appointment with my advisor about starting the Engineering Technology program in the fall. Right now, this is my only hold up. Desktop computers came into being as I went into the job market in the early 1980s. So over the years, I've written journal articles in Word, manipulated massive spreadsheets of data for analysis in Excel and have put together PP presentations for both school and international meetings I've presented at. Being proficient in these programs is not sufficient, apparently I have to jump through this hoop too or take a class that teaches these computing skills. At this point, I don't know if my knowledge is sufficient for me to try to test out, or just take the stupid class. However, I do not want to spend my summer doing things that I have been doing for the last 30 years. I spoke to the IT guy who runs the testing center (apparently it's going to cost $75 for me to test out of this) and he says HE does not know if he has the skills that could test out of the class. Huh? The one thing that I DO know is that they are working from a very old version of Office.....one that I bypassed about 5 years ago. I have newer version on my computer, and I'm not sure I remember the old version. I do remember that the more recent version that I now currently use was a more difficult transition than they usually were. So gotta go backwards? So, if everything goes according to plan, I get to take Drafting 1, CAD 1 and precalculus. Even though I went through calculus in my BS, I'm not sure I remember a shred of it.

I have not taken IC3, but I'd burn $75 to attempt to get my summer back!
The test has a practice mode, so will they let you come in and do that?

I've done the practice test.....it was very easy, but there were only 5 questions and even if you went back to reset the test, the same questions popped up. I was hoping to get more of a sample than that.
Forking over the $75 is probably what I am going to do.

Hopefully this fall when the program starts. I dropped my transcripts off last week and hopefully they notify me soon as to how much is necessary for me to take.
I'm kinda thinking the job skills class is going to be a waste though. Hopefully that class gets tossed too!
This stupid computer class is a hoop I get to jump through first though.

Very annoying that the rules make no sense for adults returning for education!! I hope you whoop that test and don't have to take the class.
