Bleu cheese dressing. Homemade tartar sauce. The salsa-mixed-with-sour-cream concoction is yummy on fish tacos. Put a spoonful of sour cream in your bowl of chili. I thought bleu cheese dressing and tartar sauce were made with mayo? Swamp! She's being encouraged to stretch her cooking horizons! Don't be logical!

Chocolate and sour cream go well together. I've made a chocolate sour cream layer cake that's excellent.
I also add some to spaghetti sauce towards the end of cooking.
I use it when I make potato or macaroni salad, mixed with the mayo.

I thought bleu cheese dressing and tartar sauce were made with mayo? I make both with sour cream with a little bit of mayo added, just a tablespoon or so of mayo to each cup of sour cream. Sometimes I forget to put the mayo in, and it's fine without it. I like them better made with mostly or all sour cream. The bleu cheese dressing at the good restaurants around here is made with sour cream. Maybe it's a regional thing. I also use dill pickle relish and capers in my tartar sauce instead of sweet pickle relish. Maybe I'm just weird. But it's what I like, so that's what I make.

I've made chipolte sour cream, it was really good on a chicken fajita sub sandwhich recipe I got off Betty Crocker.

On top of regular pierogies plain, or mix it with sugar and put it on top of blueberry pierogies. -drool-Mix a teaspoon into a bowl of tomato soup. On top of potato pancakes. I love sour cream and used to eat it as much as I could, until I got old and increasingly lactose intolerant.

PORK CHOPS WITH SOUR CREAM SAUCE

Heat oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Brown pork chops on both sides; drain off drippings. Add next 7 ingredients. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour. You can use it as a base for many dips. It is a great ingredient in many desserts. Create something new with it.

Well, baked potatoes tonight helped some. My sister also has a recipe for a sour cream coffee cake with carmelized pear and walnuts. TD doesn't like pears, so am going o modify it and make it with tart cherries and almonds.
There is a LOT of sour cream left.

I just thought of a fruit salad my Mom used to make in the 70s. It sounds weird, but I remember it as being quite tasty:
Frozen seedless green grapes (you have to freeze the grapes to get the rest of the ingredients to achieve the right consistency), sweetened shredded coconut, and sour cream. The frozen grapes makes the whole thing tighten up and stick together. I have no idea how much of each went into it. It was actually refreshing on a hot day.
ETA: Now that I think about it again, I think you mix all the ingredients together and then put the salad in the freezer before serving. But it shouldn't be frozen solid, probably not more than an hour in the freezer, if that long.

Dip your tortilla chips in it. Mix salsa into it first and then dip your tortilla chips in it... <<adds sour cream and salsa to her shopping list>> Omg...how have I never heard of this?? That sounds delish!

You can make dips from it - for a nacho platter or a chip-dip, top a baked potato, use it in baking (cheesecakes, among other cake recipes), serve it with perogies, etc etc.
And yes, you can freeze it - I do find it forms an oil on the surface and thins if not used up within a day or two.

Sour cream coffee cake. I'd be glad to share my grandma's recipe! Do share! With pleasure! 1/2 cup butter, softened 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup sour cream Topping:
2 Tbl. butter 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 cup white sugar 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup chopped nuts (I like walnuts) Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with sour cream. Pour 1/2 the batter in a 9 x 9 inch greased pan. Cover with half the topping, then the rest of the batter, then the rest of the topping. Bake at 325 degrees for 50-60 minutes. To make the topping- Melt butter, add cinnamon and mix. Add other ingredients and mix well.

I love doing that! I cannot believe you've never heard of that. Of course, I made corned beef for our Irish Luncheon on Friday, and three people 35+years-old had never had it! I mix sour cream into mashed potatoes and then have the mashed potatoes sit in the crock pot on low for a couple hours before serving.

I'm down to about 1 pint left of it. This past weekend, we've had baked potatoes, I've put them on scrambled eggs (yeah, I've done this for years), I made my sour cream horseradish whipped potatoes and yesterday I made my sister's pear walnut sour cream coffee cake, other than I changed to cherry almond.

TD had a work event yesterday where they provided Mexican food for lunch. At the end of lunch, there were a lot of leftovers and he managed to get a TON of sour cream. The amount is probably the equivalent of what you'd find in about 5 pint sized containers. What the hell do you do with this much sour cream? Can you freeze it? You make sure all of the containers are TIGHTLY sealed. Then you put them all in a heavy-duty trash bag. Then you put that bag in another bag, for safety's sake. Then you take that bag and you put it in the trash can of the neighbor you like the least, so that vile substance is no longer in your home. You can choose to douse it in bleach or gasoline as some sort of added precaution if you wish. Whatever you do, do not eat it!! It's rotten. It says so in the name!!!!!!! SOUR cream? Who in their right mind eats that??
