www.nbcnews.com/#/news/us-news/fake-blood-blanks-schools-stage-active-shooter-drills-n28481"In the wake of mass shootings from Columbine to Sandy Hook to many in between, schools have devised new and creative ways to prepare for tragedy. Most have adapted some form of the standard lockdown drill, but some districts have gone further, with programs teaching kids self-defense, proposals to train teachers with firearms—and full-scale drills like the one that’s about to happen in Troy, a town about an hour northwest of St. Louis."
DD had early dismissal today so her teachers/staff could participate in a similiar excercise. What has this country come to.

Definitely not ideal that circumstance are causing this sort of training to be implemented On the other hand, school shooters or bomb threats do seem to be a very real danger, so might as well drill for it. At least one kid that I know of at my school got a record for making pipe bombs, and others did lower level things like making napalm or flushing cherry bombs down toilets. I do appreciate the usefulness of other safety drills too, and still carry them with me. The 3 Ps of how to use a fire extinguisher, fire safety and prevention, earthquake drills, water safety, etc. The fire presentations alone have been immensely useful twice so far. I lock up and totally freeze without set protocols, but with training, so far I follow the chain quickly, exactly, and to good effect is seems. DH has a tendency to heat grease far too high, that's all I'll say

We had those in high school back in 2000-2002. Lots of kids in the drama department volunteered to play victims.
The people I know who participated said it was very educational/helpful.

The country is finally learning to take care of themselves once again. Most had their heads in the sand for far too long!

When I was in school, we worried about the teacher being nice, not the other students. (Yeah, it was a LONG time ago. ) I guess if this is what they need, I'm glad they have access to it. "A sad state of affairs."

I grew up in an area that was one of the largest refining centers in the nation. We had constant duck and cover drills. The thing is they lied to us. They told the elementary kids it was in case we had a tornado. It was really in case we were nuked.
