www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/16/us-banker-extradition-tax-bail-idUSBRE9BF16Q20131216" (Reuters) - Raoul Weil, a former high-ranking UBS banker charged with tax fraud by U.S. authorities, was ordered freed on bail of $10.5 million on Monday in federal court in Fort Lauderdale.
Weil, a 54-year-old Swiss citizen, is charged with helping Americans dodge taxes via secret Swiss bank accounts."
This is for everyone who continues to insist there are "ways" to avoid paying US income taxes or that the "big rich bankers" never get charged for committing a crime. This scandal has changed how business is done in the US for multinationals. The sad thing is, US companies were not the ones committing the crimes, rather US citizens were - but business has to pay the price. Oh, wait - that could never happen, right?

Critics of the government's efforts to prosecute UBS fear Weil may be given a sweetheart deal to protect some of the bank's clients, who they say include U.S. politicians, according to Stephen M. Kohn, director of the National Whistleblower Center.
"UBS had an ultra secret special program for which the bank would accept millions and billions of dollars from ... highly placed government officials," Kohn said.
"We fear that political pressure from high ranking officials and extremely wealthy individuals, both from the United States and those in power in foreign countries, will result in a cover-up," he added.
nothing will come of this and the whistle blower should probably watch his back.

workpublic - I'm following this case and sincerely hope you are wrong.
FWIW - the cat is out of the bag on this one in a big way. The whistle blower is not in any danger IMHO.
