I'm so glad you and the deer were ok but I'm sorry he didn't think to apologize to you for the damage. I highly recommend Deer Whistles to be placed in the front of your vehicles. We are inundated with them around here and my biggest fear is that we'll kill them or they'll kill us. When we were driving back from Cedar Key or when we come home late from our property there are dozens and dozens along the highways. Stresses me out! We see them dead on the side of the roads a lot. So sad. But I always wonder what the vehicles look like when they hit that hard to kill one. Honestly, the only thing a deer whistle does around here is to get the attention of the deer so it is looking at you when you hit it.

Try hitting a deer with this and you'll quickly find out why these are called "brush bars"... They look awesome, but don't really protect as much as you might think.
Don't ask me how I know this.
For most "brush bars" I agree with you Milee. They are more cosmetic than functional. But look closely at this set up. All welded. Not a lighter, bolt together kit from a box. Radiator hoop is welded to that big honkin bumper. Fender wings have what looks like a 3/8 inch or so gusset welded between the fender wings and the bumper. Keeps the wings from folding back into the fender if you take a hit on the cormer. Can't quite be sure, but the main verticle pieces look like they could be 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch plate steel. This brush bar set up looks like it could be heavy enough that someone had to put heavier front springs in that truck to keep the brush bars from dragging on the road. The very heavy duty guards are standard equipment around here. They will keep the deer from getting into the radiator. They do work for deer...however, if you meet up with an elk...all bets are off

Yep, "grazed" one while driving to the train station this morning. It jumped out of the darkness right in front of my car. It really was just a side swipe so I was stunned by the amount of damage when I stopped to car to get out and look. AND to top it off the damn thing ran off without even apologizing! I don't even get to keep the meat. Can't wait to see how much the repairs are... I keep thinking maybe we shouldn't rant all that much publically about deer hits. If game and fish ever looked into the subject and figured out how many deer are "harvested" by vehicles each year, there would arise a great whinning and nashing of teeth! Look at the revenue they are missing. I keep waiting for them to tack a deer license and conservation stamp costs onto my license plate fees each year

Captain sorry to hear about the garage window. Maybe you can put stickers on the replacement window like people do for birds.

Deer are like ghosts. When you move, they move along with you.

Maybe you should have gotten Fluffy Butt from MinnesotaPaintLady; he looked like he'd chase deer off.
Your husbands reaction had to have been priceless!!!! OMG, who would ever expect a deer to panic itself through a window!!!!

I'm worried about hitting a deer. Several co workers have hit deer, and I've seen deer out after dark near my apartment. One time when i came home, someone had hit and killed a deer right in front of where I lived. They're everywhere.

We had one come through the automatic doors of our huge grocery store. Ran around everywhere slip sliding and startling customers. Finally someone sensible got on the loudspeaker and told all the customers and employees to stay still and be quiet. Opened all the doors and the deer ran out the back way.

I've now left messages with three different window replacement companies, not a single one has called back!

Well zibazinski, that may be it... I called three more. Sigh. The last one I called yesterday actually had a real human pick up the phone!!! Took my information (I left work number for daytime contact and home number for evening contact) and told me they would call me back to arrange a quote. Remember my commute is 1.5 hours each way... So as it turns out the last one I called had the owner leave a message on both my work and home phone (I left before he called work) and got home before I could pick up the home message. Said he'd stop by for a quote and it was ok if we weren't home since it was a garage window. Turns out he pulled in the driveway pretty much the same time I got home. They may be able to get a guy out today (yea!!!) to get the garage window repaired. Cost will be around $260 - 280 which I think is pretty reasonable. In addition, since he was there - DD had a storm window that was cracked (pre-move in) that needed to be repaired. He took that with him and will be around $80 to fix. Yea! I'm getting my garage back and am able to cross one more thing off my inspection punch list!!! Nice guy, fast service. If the work is of good quality (and they were recommended by another place) they'll get major kudos on Yelp. Ok, now no more deer stuff, Please!

What people don't realize is that there have been serious cuts in federal funding in the area of mental health counseling for deer. This has lead to increases in suicides by automobile and other erratic behaviors (some described in this thread). I suggest writing your congress person.

No need - all that will be fixed with Obamacare.
